Two Worlds by DigitAl3x, on Flickr

One side of the street sits in Lexus cages with heated seats and AC, the other scrounges for food in public trash cans. Injustice.

Took a late afternoon walk today and got up close to the Mile High Mine gallus frame. I showed this frame in the past but from a more distant spot. They opened up a whole warren of walking trails through this and several other old mine sites. Actually, the name is a misnomer, the elevation at this point is 6100 feet (1860 meters) above sea level. The mine shafts, however, did go a mile deep into the earth! The trails start at about 5900 feet and work their way to above 6200 feet. More to come.

PS: I really like your Snake photo.

Dale

Thanks Dale. Good to know about that turtle. I'll pass it on to my hiking buddy who is in this shot. Here we're at the top of Silver Peak in Killarney Provincial Park. The white Quartzite rock makes it a bit of a challenge for exposure. He's contemplating his baloney sandwich.

Very nice detail and colors. The bird is ugly as all get out, but very colorful.

Yesterday's sunset at the Aylmer marina, province of Québec, Canada. Image

I keep trying to find a location like this to take a picture very similar to this one. Nicely captured and processed.

There's some colour 'fringing' around the butterfly. Could it be due to over-sharpening?

You're 100 percent correct, but I can't figure out what it is. I don't believe it is over-sharening as it seems to appear in the original RAW file. However; I think my eyes can also be playing tricks on me as I see the fringing sometime, and sometimes I don't. Very strange.

30 years ago today, Gilles Villeneuve was killed during practice of the Belgium F1 GP.

In 2005, I had the pleasure of sitting in one of his race cars; this one a 312-T5 used during the 1979 season.

Nice staging on this one. Looks like you had a great time and I really enjoyed your Caribbean pictures. How are you liking your new 5D3?

Thanks... When I discovered this place had red lounge chairs on the beach, it was a no-brainer to do this picture to match my shirt :)

I'm enjoying the 5D3 a lot... The most tangible benefit has been the keeper rate of photos shot in low light. Honestly it's very rare to have a reject due to miss focused now, and I'm coming from a 7D that was pretty capable. I think another part of it is the 24-105L is also a step up from the 17-55 EFS lens I was using most of the time. It produces nice contrasty saturated images. I'm still learning how to get the most out of my 5D3 RAW images in post. It's been a great upgrade from the perspective it's made me think more about all aspects of my photography from the point of capture to the adjustments.

I guess another killer benefit of the 5D3 is it's high ISO capabilities and rather palatable noise characteristics... here's 16000 ISO...

In April the Thai celebrate Songkran Festival (New Year); part of the fun is to throw water at passersby in the streets and to smear their faces with chalk. I managed to keep my camera more or less dry :)

I wish I could've had both women in focus, but it was such a spur of the moment street shot, sometimes you gotta roll with what you got:

To give you an idea about how these structures worked, the triangular gallus frame had a round pulley-like wheel on the top that ran thick steel cables from the small open elevator cabs that would lower the miners into the mine shaft to the "engine house." They would run, in this case, through three support structures to the building on the top of the hill which housed the huge turbine engines that would raise and lower the cabs.
