A quiet corner of Ulverston...

Image

Some great street shots you've posted so far... keep em' coming! I'd love to try some of the lavender chocolate that store has-

Todays shot for me comes from an area off the beaten path in Paris... Up along the canal St. Martin. The trees in late fall look great in black and white, I think.

Miss these planes

Equipment: Nikon D700, 200-400mm F/4.0G IF-ED AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor, Nikon TC-14E II.
Settings: 1/3200sec, F/6.3, ISO400, 280mm.

I really miss the F-111C. It was a beautiful plane. It's an older 2009 image from my library, but it's one I quite like. That thing was going unbelievably fast when I took the shot. You don't hear it coming, and it's hard to see in the distance as well, just a small dot moving at warp speed with a bit of exhaust smoke trailing behind it. It's only when it is right upon you doing almost the speed of sound, then the noise hits you. I can only imagine how menacing these must have been when a flight of them attacked the late Col. Gaddafi of Libya all those years ago.

The weather wasn't great - it was hot and the pollution from nearby fires and the east-coast dust-storm in the prior days made the light not ideal. As a side note, the 1.4x TC-14E II teleconverter from Nikon works very well with the 200-400mm Zoom-Nikkor with no obvious reduction in image quality or autofocus performance.

Photograph taken at 11:00 am. The sunlight was filtered by the clouds.

Very nice shot. Caught my eye because of the moody light.

It's a shame they retired the RF-111C, it was surely one of my favourite jets to photograph outside of the Boeing 707.
