I've been a bit hesitant of showing this photo (and 2 more I'll share over the next couple of days). I've been trying to work more with off camera flash and lighting of people, since I think that is where my interest has been going these days. I don't have a lot of chances to go out for landscape photos since there hasn't been time to go out to places worth shooting. People photos don't require as much travel time, and I find the challenge of working with flashes and lighting to be interesting.

The reason I wasn't sure I wanted to share it is the easiest people I have to work with are my family, and I didn't want to feel that I was just sharing family snapshots. But I finally decided that for everyone else here, they're just random people anyway, so it doesn't matter who the subject really is. I'm also trying to do more than just the typical family snapshot. So, forget that they're my kids and just consider the picture for itself and let me know what you think of it.

If you hadn't told us this was an off camera flash I would have taken it for a side lit portrait with sun off to the left of the frame There are no real noticeable shadows on her face from the side lighting, her hair lights up nicely, so I'd say it is a job well done. Let's see more.

Beautiful shot of the entrance to Piazza San Marco (St. Mark's Square), with the Doge's Palace to the right and the Campanile Belfry. About 50 yards to the left of the belfry is the famous Caffe Florian (nice name!) where Casanova used to frequent. Did you take this shot from Saint George's Church from across the Canal?

You are obviously very familiar with Venice. I love the place! You can also see the Bridge of Sighs on the right connecting the Doge's palace with what was a prison across the channel.

I took the photo from our cruise ship as it sailed into Venice early in the morning.

Here's a shot for today looking back from the top of the Campanile later that day...

The light from the left of the frame is from the sun. If you look at the eye catchlight, you can see the light from the right that hit her face.

I went to a local photography meet-up last night, and they had 2 pro photographers reviewing photos. They liked both the first one I posted and this one. Their most favorite photo was one I posted here a year ago of my younger daughter sitting on a bench at the Henry Ford museum.

The main light for this one is the flash bounced off the barn wall back to my daughter to create a big "soft box" light. The sun was behind her for the accent on the hair.

Was at a reception in NE Connecticut last weekend . The small town where the event was held reminded me of the kind of place where Norman Rockwell would have painted .

My first attempt at selective colour, basil grown outside of a cafe in the city. I don't give a toss if it's "in fashion" or not, I like it when it's done well. I couldn't believe how easy and quick it was in photoshop CS6!
