1. What are the differences in photo resolution from iPhone X vs iPhone 8+?
2. Does iPhone X crop the photos when you view them? I ask because iPhone X's screen dimension is a weird aspect ratio to take photos.
 
They’ve the same camera sensor so there’s no difference in resolution.

Both screens are a different aspect ratio to the original photo and so they just scale to fit.

No resolution difference, they're both 12MP [rear] cameras that shoot 4032 × 3024 (landscape). The resulting images are scaled as needed to view them on the phone's display.

The X has a slightly better Telephoto rear lens, f/2.4 vs. f/2.8 and it includes OIS where the 8+ doesn't. The X also support portrait mode/lighting on the front camera, but the specifications are the exact same as the 8+
