I'd like to take a moment to step away from the fun parts of photography, and discuss the heart stopping part - damaged or stolen equipment. Some of us are just starting out in the hobby, some of us have been at it longer. Both groups will have invested a few hundred to a few thousand dollars into this hobby or business venture.

Like many of you, I've read multiple books and articles all that state "Insure your equipment".

My question to all of you that insure your equipment - what does your specific policy cover in regards to damage/theft? Do you have it as homeowner/renter or business insurance? What advice would you give?

Over the last year I've invested in a few very nice lenses and I want to do the responsible thing, but most of the websites I've visited are more confusing than helpful. Any insight from you who have your equipment insured is appreciated.

If you join NANPA, you can get equipment insurance from them. The first year we had the policy, the wife let her Canon 100-400L lens roll off the safari truck and hit the ground. Dead lens. The policy repaid us for paying Canon to rebuild the lens.

My home insurance covers my photography gear. I just pay bit more by increasing the worth of goods at home. And it covers loss/theft outside my home.
