Do you think that we well get these features on 13 Pros with the same specs as the 14 or it will stay software locked just for the newer models? for example we are getting the new low power mode for watch s4 and newer so there might be a little hope in a future update

Nope, Apple will make this a 14 exclusive feature.

I have a series 5 watch with the watchOS 9 beta and there is no sign of low power mode, pretty sure Apple want this to be a series 8 (and higher) exclusive.

they actually said in the keynote that low power mode will be available for series 4 and newer

Probably not. Those features are there to encourage people to upgrade.

I remember with iPhone 11 they made a new camera interface and QuickTake video and made it exclusive to the 11. Then a year later after the 12 came out they backported it to the XS and XR. Unless they do something like that again those features are for 14 Pros and newer only.

Hold down the battery in the control center thing.

Photonic Engine is listed as 14 exclusive on the Apple Store when compared iPhone 14 Pro and 13 Pro so I don’t see that one coming back. It is purely a software limitation as the iPhone 14 gets this feature with the same SoC as the iPhone 13 Pro. Cinemicatic mode in 4K is similarly listed only on the 14 Pro.

Low Power mode, as others have pointed out, does come to recent older watch generations.

Like others mentioned I think this is going to be software locked to the 14+ especially with the 14 and 14 Max having the same SOC as the 13 pros besides the actual hardware changes in the camera it would possibly greatly hurt 14 sales since outside of this forums the majority seem to get the standard models (at least what I see out and about)

Well, but isn’t the iPhone 13 Pro camera technically still more capable of what the non-pro 14 does? This whole photon engine thing is software, not hardware. At least as much as I understood.

To me it seems much more as if this is a pure software limitation and the 13 Pro line is fully capable of doing both photo engine work and much more importantly a cinematic mode in 4K since this is not limited to a hardware change at all.

For a company that claims to build so long lasting devices it seems a bit ridiculous if they then go ahead and software limit stuff to make the new shiny device look better than it is.

This is an important point.
I wish Apple could focus on features on older devices too. Especially with the component shortage still going on and Apples claims to want to recycle as much as possible.
A good way to save on the environment, would be to make already working things continue to become better. Apple does this already in some ways, but they could do this better.

Beggars can’t be choosers.

Apple is adding new features to existing devices with iOS 16. Will they add every feature we want to see from new devices? No, they need to fund the development efforts with future device sales so they’ll try to find enticing carrots to pull us along. At least we get updates for 5+ years whereas Android gets much much less.

This has nothing to do with being „beggars“ and I think you are missing the point. It is just hard to understand why two technical identical devices don’t get the same feature, just for the pure sake of making the newer one look better. (Talking about the Cinematic Mode 4K). For me this is more about understanding if there might be a technical difference which has not been talked about yet what could be a good explanation for Apples decision :)

The explanation is as simple as Apple just decided not to deliver it for the older generation. Apple could say the technical reason is that the A15 in the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 generations aren’t exactly the same so they can’t implement it. The reality is Apple decides to gate features on a regular.

You could question why Dynamic Island isn’t on all devices with the notch. The notch is slightly bigger, but the feature could still work if Apple decided it should…

If you look back on iPhone and Apple device releases you’ll see it a fair bit. Now that the iPhone has peaked technically they have to resort to software gates more and more to drive upgrades since the hardware is so far out and ahead.
