Other Photonic Engine and 4K Cinematic for 13 Pros

Do you think that we well get these features on 13 Pros with the same specs as the 14 or it will stay software locked just for the newer models? for example we are getting the new low power mode for watch s4 and newer so there might be a litte hope

I certainly hope that we get the features, at least on 13 Pro. Since the A15 chip is the same it’s just software features.
I’m also hoping for the AoD features, but I guess it could be argued that is hardware related upgrades needed for that.

Nope, Photonic Engine is a 14 series exclusive. At least based on Apple’s Compare Page. Kind of crappy knowing the 13 Pro has the exact same chipset and ISP

Obviously Apple wants to sell more devices as any other company.
But it’s really sad to think Apple is thinking so much about the environment and tries so much to convince us to send in old devices, and still makes this kind of features exclusive on new devices that doesn’t really require new hardware.

No chance, Apple never brought other camera software features like Smart HDR, Night Mode, and Deep Fusion to older iPhones

So no reason they'd start now when the difference get smaller every year

No there were no hardware limitations, Google/Samsung brought back similar features to 1-2 year old phones

Unless you believe Apple's A12 GPU is weaker than Qualcomm's 821 or 670 GPUs (the 2 year old OG Pixel was updated with Night Sight, and the cheaper Pixel 3A was released with Night Sight)

Since the Photonic Engine uses Machine Learning and since its ML model would be dependant upon the camera/sensor, I doubt they would spend the money/developer effort to backport that to any other device that matched only on CPU requirements (e.g., an iPad that had the same CPU).

I know it can be frustrating/disappointing, but if it makes you feel any better, this happens with every generation (including features that seem much more trivial to backport.)

IMO not a good excuse given how expensive iPhones are, not bringing software features after just year is poor from a company which claims to offer the best software support

And the iPhone 13 Pro literally has the same A15/camera sensor as the iPhone 14, so no backporting excuse this time

Do you have any more information regarding this? Since the processing is done on the SoC, the sensor could theoretically be any type.
It’s the A15 that has the image processor on the iPhones.
