Hi all,
I have a question to ask about the photos sync between Mac and iOS. I do not have iCloud Library activated, but when I take a photo (or downloaded, or receive it on a messaging app and gets saved on camera roll) it's synced with the Photos app on my Mac. I was wondering: are the two independent one from the other? If I delete a photo on my iPhone will it stay on the Photos app or will it get deleted as well?
(Photos are not synced via iTunes)

Thank you :)

They sync via iCloud, so if you delete a photo on one device it will remove it from the others also

But I don't have iCloud Photo Library activated. Does it matter or deleting a pic on my phone will delete it from Photos anyway?

If I remember correctly when I delete a photo on my iPhone, it tells me it will be deleted from all my other devices. Maybe take a photo you don’t want and test it? It has to be synced via some service, you’re sure it’s not iCloud?

I think they're being synced over wifi or iCloud but i'm sure I don't have the "library" thing because I never activated it. I'll try anyway

It’s not selected in the settings on your iPhone? Photos is Off?

[doublepost=1515370755][/doublepost]I see what you’re talking about now, when you go into Photos it says iCloud photo library. I bet that just stores the photos in your iCloud storage, yours is probably set to just store locally, so it stores it on your Mac and your iPhone but not online. This is my guess, but that’s what it sounds like. And I am sure that if you delete the photo on one it would delete it on the other also

*facepalm* Yes I do, photo stream is synced over iCloud and wifi *facepalm*
Another question - by any chance do you use iCloud photo library?

Yeah, I use it. I have a Mac, but I primarily just use it to sync between my iPhone and iPad I rarely use my Mac

It sounds like you are using Photo Stream which is distinct from iCloud Photo Library.

You can check the differences here

One main difference is that edits (including deletion I think) do not update across devices with Photo Stream, but they do update across devices with iCloud Photo Library.

Yes they’re different!

So I tried, and while the sync can be slow at times, deleting a photo from my iPhone doesn't delete it from my Photos app on the Mac. A question though - I imagine the number of photos impacts the space occupied on the disk, but by using apps to analyze disk space (like DaisyDisk etc) I see no "Photo library"
