Have they added back support for referenced libraries, or are you forced to import into Photos? Thanks!
In Catalina, you can still import photos and have them be referenced by going to Photos.app>Preferences and unchecking "Copy items to the Photo Library". So, this specific activity was not removed.

Thanks, I'm still on Mojave so I can run Aperture. But I've been holding out for Apple to add more functionality to the Photos app, sounds like that might be happening.

Ok, dumb question... but I've updated my iPad to iPadOS 14, and my photo albums from my Mac are no longer showing up in my iPad. I thought perhaps that I needed to re-sync, and did so, but still nothing. All I have is my recent photos (that reside on the iPad). I checked on the Mac and it does still have checked to sync photos. What am I doing wrong?

What OS is your Mac on?

It's on Catalina. I felt comfortable upgrading to beta on my iPad, as i don't use it for anything critical... but on my iPhone and Mac not yet...

Right; I used to do it that way too with the phone, though on the Mac I always just used an external drive or partition for the beta OS, keeping my regular OS untouched.

In any case, all my devices are currently on the developer beta, though I have an external drive with stable Mojave. I thus can't say for sure, but it could very well be a classic update to the library structure of the Photos library being incompatible with older library structures

I still can't see any info on this anywhere. I was hoping someone else would chime in who is running Catalina on the Mac and beta 14 on iDevice and could confirm if they have same issue.
All photos appear to have synced over. I can click Library in sidebar, and then All Photos tab... and all photos are there. Just no albums show up.

Should I just be brave and update my main machine?

Have they added the ability to drop a location pin when you edit the location/GPS of a photo, or can you still only search for an approximate location?

Is the referenced library still an option in Big Sur? Has anyone migrated their referenced photo library from Mohave to Big Sur without issue?

Finally had a chance to grab the beta.

~50,000 image Photo Library opened fine after a few minutes sitting at 94%. And it's a great upgrade - not only rotation of video, but also all the usual Photo adjustments (lighting, noise reduction, etc) can now be applied to videos.

Good stuff - working well so far!

If you rotate a video in Photos App and export that video does it sill keep the rotation you applied?

Well, it uses the new UI of course. It has a nice progress bar for initial launch when it does its machine learning stuff, and it says that it's finding duplicates right now. Not sure if it could do that before.

Anything in particular you want to know?

Any more info you can provide about photos finding duplicates? Any screenshots to share of the process? Would love to have this option!

From what I can tell there's no way of getting a list of duplicates or any view of them or to remove them. It seems to solely be for the curated For You thing, and the thing where it automatically filters some photos away in the Year, Month, Day tabs. If you mostly use the All Photos tab and care about your whole library there is no point to it finding duplicates and it doesn't expose it to the user at all it seems
