Is there any way to mass export all photos from the photos app to back them up on a hard drive?

A friend has around 40000 photos in the program and wants to back them up in case her hard drive was to fail. Is there an easy way to do that? A folder some where in Finder to locate them all?

You can export them from the Photos app and save them that way if you like. Just select all the photos then use the export menu item.

Or, what is even easier is just go tot the users Pictures folder an copy the entire Photos.library file to the external drive.

Just tell her to make frequent backups of the entire hard drive which would include her 40k photos in addition to other data. Carbon Copy Cloner, SuperDuper, or any other backup program can be used.
