Hi,

I have a Mac Pro 5,1 running OC/Monterey. I have over 500 images to sort through and wanted a quick and easy app that would allow to view then and delete or move the files to a new folder. I tried to use iPhoto (which in my App in the App store). I downloaded it but it won't launch because it says it isn't supported on Monterey and suggested I use "Photos" instead, however I can't find it on the App Store? I searched for "Photos" but all I get a huge list of Apps that contain the word "Photos" which are totally unordered as far as I can tell.

Does anyone know an App I can use for this purpose that runs under Monterey?

Why is the AppStore app such rubbish? You can't even search in the App you own, and the list is not in any kind of order (Alphabetical or otherwise). It amazes me that Apple have produced such a crappy app? It seems like they did the bare minimum to enable you to buy an app and nothing else.

Thanks
Dave

For only 500, that is exactly what I would do.

Photos comes with your Mac automatically.

But why not just use Finder and Quickview? Can't see it become much quicker than that.

I tried that. but these images are 12+ MB each and it slows down a lot after 20 or so images. Also quick view doesn't allow you to delete or otherwise move the file easily which makes the process more complicated, since the only way to get to the file is to file it by name in the 500+ files.

I use a layout with a) Finder in View > as List mode as a fairly narrow window on the left, b) Command-Option-I Get Info Window on the right mostly to see exif data, c) Quick Look (command-space) pane in the middle. I keep the Quick Look window open and move around the photos using the View > as List window.

Sometimes I use other Finder views depending on what I am doing. Maybe 2 windows if I want to move photos around.

This seems pretty fast with 25MB RAWs and is easily the quickest way of sorting photos by looking at them.

Really this is just a customised View > as Gallery.

Curious, it should work fine. Are you low on RAM?

Command-backspace allows you to delete images quickly, while in Quickview. Not sure I understand the second issue. Can't you just close the Quickview view? If you are in columns view, your file is already selected and moveable from the information view.

I have 48 GB in this machine, so I don't think it's anything to do with RAM size. I'll try it again and let you know where the slowdown occurs. By "QuickView" do you mean "Quick Look" ? e.g. Select an image and right click and select "Quick Look" from the Menu?

One app I use is FastRawViewer , that works with RAW photos but with jpg as well and does exactly what you are looking for. It's not free but you have a 30 days to try.
