I never had the iPhone 11 Pro but I remember I read it had an option to capture outside the frame of the wide angle lens using the ultra wide angle in case you wanted to straighten the horizon or recrop. Do the iPhones 12 have this option? I cannot find it on mine. In only see “view outside the frame” which seems to be for framing purposes only.

I saw a tutorial on the 12P where the reviewer stated that he didn't know what that feature was for and if anyone found a way to use it to drop him a line.

Can’t find it on mine either. It definitely was an option on the 11P at launch though. IIRC, it’s not possible to use both deep fusion and capture outside the frame at the same time. You could only use only one or the other. When the deep fusion software update came out, I disabled capture outside the frame on my 11P and never looked back. It may be that Apple has decided deep fusion is so much more useful and has removed the option altogether.

They removed the setting in iOS14 and replaced it with Deep Fusion enabled at all times instead of capture photo outside of frame. (You had to pick either deep fusion OR capture outside of frame) It was a great feature but it’s gone now.

What is this setting I have in my iPhone 12 Pro Max?
“View outside the frame”
With this setting on, the phone uses the ultra wide angle image to show stuff outside the frame when taking a shot using the camera app. This is supposed to help with composition only, and the phone doesn’t actually capture anything outside the frame.

The (now gone) capture outside the frame feature would automatically merge the wide and ultra wide images together, so you had some freedom to recompose your shot in post. It was nice but the 11 couldn’t do it and deep fusion at the same time. I’m guessing they prioritized deep fusion.

That’s what I said above but one of the members here in this thread said I was incorrect. I personally loved that capture outside the frame feature and it’s a shame it was replaced by deep fusion
