Just set up my new iPhone X and restored from a backup of my 7, but none of my pictures transferred over. Am I being impatient or should I restore again?

Did you have “iCloud Photo Library” enabled under your iCloud settings on the 7? If you did, the pictures should all show up on your X automatically shortly. Also it’d be best to leave the X plugged in to power and connected to WiFi so things will download from the cloud quicker.
