I love macintosh, I love storing my photos in PHOTOs app because it comes with the OS.

I imported new photos from my SD card and they all imported.

I ejected the SD card.

I looked through the 'Last Import' and all the photos were there, I even export a RAW photo do some editing.

I close PHOTOS app, Like I always do.

30 minutes later I go back to the PHOTOS app and 40 PHOTOS I TOOK and last imported aren't here.

'LAST IMPORT' Shows 60% of the photos I Imported.

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE OTHER 40% of my Photos??

damn it, am I an idiot storing my photos in APPLE PHOTOS?

SHOULD I BE USING MY LIGHTROOM? SHOULD I JUST STORE THE RAW FILES IN A FOLDER?

WHY HAS APPLE PHOTOS MURDERED THESE ONCE IN A LIFETIME PHOTOS.

My depression, anxiety, christ on a cracker.

Do you use seperate libraries with Photos? Maybe another loaded?

Do you still have them on your SD card? I never delete my photos off the SD card until I absolutely have too

Import them again from the card if you haven't deleted them, if Photos thinks it already has them imported then it won't import them again.

I don't use Photos as I think its crap but try looking somewhere else other than just the Last Import, it should have a view by date or even just All Images or similar.

Failing that, restore the Photo's library from your Time Machine backup and see if they are there.

I'm done with the PHOTOs app, I think this has happened before but I normally have hundreds of photos to import off a sd card.

I opened the library and files aren't even in the 'masters' folder.

I wiped my SD card this time because I have a bad habit of keeping old files on them....

ugh........I'm just switching over to my paid apps now, I have capture one pro and lightroom/photoshop but I liked having my raw photos on the cloud and stuff.

yesterday I had a professional shoot, today wasn't a professional shoot but these photos were helping me with my depression today... and now they are just gone.

ugh

Your bad habit is deleting the photos off the card before confirming the files exist in your library and are backed up.

Not sure what you mean by a professional shoot but just approach it properly with a professional workflow that includes dual libraries and a proper backup and card reuse policy, not randomly formatting the card then blaming Apple, evens Photos.

Brst wishes with the depression.

You're a "pro", right?
What are backups for?

If somebody paid me for photos I sure wouldn't use Photos.

Just as an example, Lightroom has an option to make a second copy as it imports, which might have saved the day depending on what went wrong here. I assume other photo organizers do as well.

If you haven't overwritten your SD card then there are utilities that can usually recover the photos that are on there. In my experience they're quite effective, so maybe not all is lost. CardRaider by ecamm, for example.
