It's the thickest white thing I've seen since showering earlier this morning. :D

But seriously, thank goodness Apple strives for thinner, sleeker.

I would appreciate if you include a picture with your post. You may also private message it to me. :)

ARM was crap back then

2002 MS introduced a tablet computer built on x86. apple decided to copy them but only released it once ARM CPU's became powerful enough

Apple has been toying with the idea of making a tablet since the early 80s. See this very interesting page (with a lot of nice concept and prototype photos) : http://liquidpubs.com/blog/2010/11/08/apple-their-tablet-computer-history/

Also, the Newton MessagePad was essentially a 5" tablet released by Apple in 1993.

At that time, Apple were probably thinking something along the lines of a 'keyboard-less' laptop rather than the 'supersized iPhone' direction the iPad ultimately went with, hence the lack of Home button

Which was junk, because Windows was, and remains, unusable on a touchscreen device. Windows 8 might change that, MS have had four years to try after all, but I doubt it.

Apple waited until their tablet device was viable, instead of throwing it out to market regardless of whether it worked or not. Leave that to Microsoft.

Why do the photos look like they're from the 1940's? I'm pretty sure digital cameras were around 10 years ago.

Sure, and unless you wanted to spend a bit, the quality wasn't all that good, especially shooting indoors without flash. And yes, Apple's QuickTake cameras had been around since 1994, with 0.3mpix output (640x480).

The pictures look like they were taken with Tri-X or Tmax-400, possibly BW400CN. Cheap, usable in any 35mm film camera, and processing was still available at any drugstore.

Gosh if that's from 10 years ago imagine what they have in their R&D lab right now! *** wishing I worked for Apple R&D ***

You'd develop a weird case of Cassandra syndrome after seeing levitating computers that followed you around and flew to your fingertips with the swipe of a hand. :apple: But you wouldn't be able to tell a sole.

Glad to see Apple was inspired by other vendors that preceded their prototype. :)

i would love to know what samsung where doing between 2002-2004 when ive was exploring the vision that would take Tablets to a new height.

let me guess, samsung already developed the Tablet and Apple copied :D,
I actually had a Samsung tablet in 2004. It was the new Windows tablet thing that was going to "be big" that year. It was a convertible laptop that could be either a sub-par laptop or a "what is it good for?" tablet. It sucked.

Oh, it used a special pen that allowed the cursor to hover near the pen without actually touching the screen. That was about the coolest part of the whole thing.

"Photos of Early iPad Mockup Surface"

Does that mean that Apple will be suing Microsoft next?

If it had a dock connector it's not from 2002. Dock didn't come out until 2003.

EDIT: Though theoretically, they could have invented the dock back in 2002 (iPod w/dock was released April 03).

They COULD have invented it in the late 90ies. We just don't know.
