Too. Many. Leaks. I remember being surprised in the old days (say, pre-iPhone 4S). Apple should form a special rumour and secret leaks disinformation team in order to "double down" on secrecy.

Leaks are going to be the norm when you are dealing with an item that is gearing up for mass production, that there is so much hype around and there are so many people involved in both the supply chain and manufacturing.

I guess putting a $4 led and a 75cents plate on it is faster than designing a COMPETITIVE SMARTPHONE WITH A LARGER SCREEN! ( sorry for the caps, but stupid Apple forced me to go with a S4 from my Iphone 5......and I am very happy about it)
Well they ONLY forced you to bring the phone one inch closer to your head to have same size.

No one forced you to buy android crap. Thats your own bad decision :)

You were surprised by iphone 4? :p lol

? You mean as a consumer you have options outside of an Apple-ruled world, and that this is somehow a bad thing?

same camera

This gets better and better. Same form factor, same tiny screen, and now same 8 megapixel camera vs. Samsungs 13 meg. Can we all say "Holy CRAP, Batman"?

Apple didn't force you to do anything. Get over yourself.

Have fun with your s4 mate ... I really don't know what you expect especially knowing apple... My guess you feel R&D is meaningless and that someone just slapped an extra LED on there because its oh so obvious ... I got an s4 for my dad and that phone had a beautiful screen and great battery .

Then came the horrendous LAG

Based on what exactly? Sight unseen, just gonna go buy it?

For one thing its the bigger battery. If apple still
Using dual core with bigger battery and optimise it in ios 7 will definetely be better than my iphone 5 battery usage.

My Nokia 6500C came with a dual flash back in 2007.

There's no reason why the iPhone at x10 the cost shouldn't have had one to begin with. If this and a fingerprint scanner are all that's new I hardly see the point in upgrading from my iPhone 4.

Wait...you mean you actually are OK with that microscopic screen? From what other people are saying you could probably cover the whole thing with your finger!

so, is the next iphone going to be bigger? :)

if we assume that the distance from the edge of that piece to the led is the same as in iphone 5, it shows that the next iphone is, at least, wider!

what do you think?

Yeah, because a 3 tier processor upgrade, better rear and facetime cameras, improved sapphire lens cover, bigger screen, improved dock connector, higher resolution video recording, Siri, and better battery life is no reason to upgrade your phone.:apple:

In the few leaked pictures we've seen, doesn't the other "LED" look more like a red eye reducer? That would be a lot more necessary.

wouldn't having the twin flash further spaced be better than stacked on top of each other?

Slightly, but there isn't nearly enough spacing available on the device for it to make much of a difference. It's also probably the case that a flash not right next to the camera would often be covered by a finger.

The problems I've had with my 4s's flash include absurd shutter lag, metering even worse than my 5D2, and of course too damned many pixels. Given what the vast majority of phone pix are used for, a 1MP module the same size would perform way better.

I don't want a bigger phone and I prefer a phone where you can access the whole screen one handed.

If you think that list of features is worth spending $799AUD on go ahead. I don't.
(and 'better dock connector'...really )

I don't get why these sites republish photos from the origin and add their own watermark on top of it..

why are you all surprised about it? Everybody knew that 5s is going to be just a small specs bump with some new "awesome/magical/itjustworks" feature that Apple is going to throw it in everybody's face. And i guess dual LED flash is this "new" feature.

I found this on Patently Apple posted April 07, 2011...

"The iOS device has a camera function for taking a picture, where a controller is to command a camera flash to produce two or more multi-value coded pulses of light during a single shutter cycle of the picture. As redefined here, the term "camera flash" is not limited to elements that produce only visible light pulses; the camera flash could also, or alternatively, produce non-visible light pulses that can be reflected from moving objects in the scene and then detected by an imaging sensor (as a picture of the scene with the moving object).

The flash in Apple's patent is described in terms of having multiple LED lamps each of which could be driven by a different pulse sequence (during the single exposure time interval). The flash controlled in this manner thus allows the picture to be taken without decreasing the exposure time, thereby capturing a sharper picture even while there may be some relative movement between the device and the object in the scene being illuminated."

interesting, thanks!

also interesting, thanks!

the author, richard padilla, wrote-

.... " Notably, the space for the flash modules on the top strip appear to have spacing for a dual-LED flash, which is consistent with a December 2012 prototype iPhone 5S that leaked back in June. A dual-LED flash would improve the performance of the iPhone's flash, creating better lit, less harsh flash photos in low light conditions. "

richard, dual flashes do not produce less harsh photos.... on the contrary... with every light source one uses an extra shadow line is created. the effect can be, in fact, more harsh. looking more closely at the proposed flash modules the one seemed a bit reddish to me and the other the normal white/silver. the latter is actually the flash unit for "daylight balanced" light. the reddish module might be what the two other quoted people suggested.

i personally think and hope that this reddish module is a low light/darkness pre flash to support camera focus. iphone low light/near darkness pix are almost always NOT in good focus.
