My main reason not to upgrade to Photos from iphoto was because of how I edit my pictures. I browse in iphoto and then click edit in external editor which takes me to photoshop. Can the new photos do this? I dont believe the original could. Thanks!

There's no "Edit in" feature in the current version of Photos. It does support the concept of extensions so that if the tool supports it, you can use features of said tool non-destructively within Photos. Photoshop doesn't have a Photos extension and would guess it won't ever have one. Right now (the first couple of days of availability), the only application to support extensions is the Macphun suite. Probably Pixelmator will arrive with one sooner rather than later since they already do it for iOS.
