Photos on iCloud Drive

Hi

I recently upgraded to iCloud Drive and I've uploaded several GB of photos which I have processed in Lightroom. I don't use the photos app. I find I cannot see previews of many of these viewing the iCloud webpage on my Mac but on my phone I see thumbnail images. I also find I can download them on my phone.

My questions

Do I need to do someth9ing to make image thumbnails appear on the web on my Mac?

I can't figure out where the images I've downloaded to my phone are. They aren't in the photo gallery or the Files app and I'm stuck. Can anyone help?
