Good Morning. I installed the Beta the day it became available. To-date, the faces in my photo library remain 0 of 6500 photos scanned. Tried VPN off, ON, Photos minimized, closed, rebooted several times. I even downloaded all originals to my mac. nothing. Anyone else having similar issues?

I even deleted the photo library and allowed it to rebuild from icloud. Has been curating for 4 days (Is showing progress but very slow) and still not scanned any pics

This happened to me on BigSur. There’s a post here which got it back for me https://discussions.apple.com/thread/252103789?answerId=254438591022#254438591022

I only cleared the caches and launchagent folders , didn’t do the other steps.
Is there such cache on iPhone that I can clean too? I’ll look at this post. Thanks.

In the meantime, after two days, it now shows with 8 photos scanned out of the 8k… maybe those are the new photos I took since I installed PB2.

All of a sudden yesterday my photos started scanning. Only took one day to scan 7000 pics. Seems all is well

They started scanning for me too but are now stuck at around 2K out of the 8K I have.

Photos is now scanning and updating as expected. New issue. My Album of unknown people (People is left blank) is now showing approx 400 pictures with no unknown people. I tried exporting, deleting, re-importing and running the scan again. Same result. Anyone else?

On my side it is taking a lot of time. I’m halfway through. 4K out of 8k.
I have never seen an unknown person album. Is there anything special to do to display one? I’ve been dreaming of that feature.

I created one. A smart album where people is (leave blank). Then I add a filter for keywords "Strangers" and add to all pics with strangers in the background so they wont come up again

I see. What I'm looking for from Apple is an automated Unassigned People category where all the photos in which a face has been identified but not assigned to any know people are regrouped. That way I don't have to go through my 8k pictures like I'm doing right now, check for a question mark face, and assigned it a name.

When you see the pic with the ?, scroll down. Click the circle. It will show all others it thinks are the same person. Once you name it, it will learn. Also, once all scanned and processed, on the "people" tab, it will show groupings. If you merge the like people, it will learn

Yeah, That's what I've been doing. But still requires me to 'hunt' for those question mark people by going through my photos. If only I could have an album regrouping automatically all those question mark people. That would be awesome.

Like they used to have in iphoto years ago;)

I am having the exact same issue 11.6. I tried following the steps that were outline believe but no luck. I've left the computer plugged in for over 24 hours and I've tried everything but no luck with my photos scanning from my photo library on my external hard drive.

Has anyone found a resolution or know how to fix this?

Are people still having issues with this? I noticed the same on my fresh install of Monterey three days ago - the Faces album hadn't even started scanning. However, I then checked Library > Days tab, and noticed when I scrolled to the bottom that the Curating Best Photos/Detecting Duplicates etc process is still only about half way through. I'm assuming that once this is done, the face scanning will start.

Same issue here on a iMac12,2 with upgraded metal-graphics card running 12.1 beta. Today is the first day running. I will wait for a few days ...
Update: Still not scanning after a day. I've also tried the repair procedure with no luck. Right now I am considering to create a new Photos Library.photoslibrary file...
Any thoughts?

I am. A week into Monterey and it is still scanning for favorites (I have ~90,000 photos). By now it is about 40% through. Hopefully it will scan for faces once that is finished.

My Mac’s Photo App under People has been showing zero photos scanned since i installed the Public Beta of Monterrey months ago and through released version and the 2nd beta of 12.1.

It has had multiple times plugged in and app not being used to scan all photos several times over the past several months. I have seen photoanalysis and other Photo processes running, but people still stays at zero scanned. From beta I first installed It has had some of the previous pics and all the people I had listed if I click to go and see Peoples album even with 0 pics showing scanned, but recently I found Mac has only about 10% to 25% of the pics for people in my favorite list as same people have in iOS Photos app. That’s more than the zero as showing scanned but much less than Mac had before Monterrey installed with plenty of time to scan all. It could just be the manual tags I have done over the years. I haven’t had time to check into it much.

I used “People” more out of iOS during this time frame before comparing quantities more recently. Since Catalina even with all photos scanned on both the iOS and Mac versions never seem to sink up to exact numbers for each person with Mac version usually showing less than iOS version, but it’s never been 10% to 25% of the levels of iOS Photos.

I still have the same issue. I have tried repair several times and no difference. I have updated faces on my ipad and phone and they are not transferring to my mac.

Same problem here, everyday it will scan a couple photos, then the number of photo scanned will increase, then open photos app another day the number of photo scanned will decrease again, it's been like this since I got my new M1 Pro MacBook.

Mine finally decided to scan for faces and made it through some 11,000 photos. But now it's been stuck there for the last week with 79,000 photos remaining to be scanned.
