You assume the whole world follows a US or Canadian school curricullum. You might just be wrong about that.

This is true, and I'm sorry if I have offended. I did just assume it was a pretty basic notation. I remember seeing it a lot in various tests I did as a kid (the kind where you shaded little bubbles in with a pencil).

I have seen it used in Germany's school too though, and I perfectly understood what A:B = C:x means.

Though : is used in written form, while ÷ is used in printed form, until one gets to divide via this form:

Check out Sketch: http://www.bohemiancoding.com/sketch/

Me and my co-worker are exploring it now as an alternative to Fireworks for web design. I am liking what I've seen so far, will definitely give it a real case test in my next project to see how it performs.

Along this same subject, what is a good way to handle (open, edit) EPS files without Illustrator?

Sketch only has limited EPS support (basically opens it as an image, they are working on improving it) and at the moment, if I want to, say, get some icons I have on an eps file into a Sketch document, I must use Illustrator to copy/paste them into Sketch.

I can open EPS in Fireworks and do the same but using that is no different as I made the switch to Sketch from that program.

you can use iDraw as well. Can be a lightweight illustrator substitute. Has an iPad app as well if you wanna work on the go.

Thanks for the recommendation, I tried using Inkscape which supposedly could open EPS files and it is free but after going through the trouble of getting X11 to work in Mountain Lion it just didn't work out.

I am not really looking for an Illustrator substitute tho, I made the Switch to Sketch for web design from Fireworks. All I would like to do is to be able to open eps files to get the contents like icons into Sketch without having to rely on Illustrator or Fireworks for that matter.

Can't wait for Bohemian Coding to release the update they are working on that will include EPS support in Sketch.
