Photostream Question

Say I take some pictures using my camera (not my iPhone). I then upload these pictures to my Macbook to iPhoto. Would Photostream include these pictures in my Photostream and let me put them on my PC, iPhone, and iPad?

i know on windows you copy the photos to the upload folder and it then syncs them to all devices.

i don't have a mac, but i have read so far that you get photos into photostream via iPhoto, not sure if it's automatic or manual tho
