    Hi,
I am starting to learn PHP, and I have installed MAMP on my mac, now I'm looking for a php editor, something that equals php editor for windows, with the possibility to preview the code directly in the browser.
It's hard to find something decent and for free.
    Any recommendations?

Well, you can use MAMP to preview code.

I think you can use any text editor you can find.

I know I can use MAMP to preview code, but that takes too long. I want to see the result directly in the php editor

Is PHP Editor for Windows an IDE (integrated development environment), like NetBeans for Java?

If you don't need something quite as feature-rich as an IDE, I would try out TextMate (www.macromates.com). It's a text editor that will recognize tons of different programming and scripting languages and highlight code for you so it's easy to see what you're doing. It'll also do simple things like folding subroutines if your {} are placed correctly (a good way to find out if you're missing one!). It has other features too, that I haven't bothered to discover for myself yet :) I use it all the time to write PHP.

    Tumult

    Would Tumult work for you?

Haven't seen this before I did a search (php editor live preview) for such a program so no idea how well it works.

I just downloaded Coda and wow, it's so user friendly!
It's rather pricy but I guess you pay for the comfort...
I think I'm gonna go for this one.
    thanks for the help

Don't forget about TextMate. I tried out Coda, but for whatever reason I went with TextMate. Best of luck.
