I am currently using a paid solution (inherited from client), but its really not cutting it.

Anyone know a free (Open Source or very low cost) PHP based membership administration application. My only requirements are

  • MySQL backend
  • Easy to integrate into existing website
  • Easy to manage for both admin and member
  • Usual functionality - register/activate/update profile/forgot password/etc...
  • Ability to email an activation link to member
  • Lightweight

I don't need a fancy UI, in fact, I would rather not have one since I would like to wrap my L&F around it and have the ability to reuse it for other clients.

I figured I could easily extract this from any BB/Forum system or similar application framework, but that would require work and I thought maybe someone has already done this for me ;)

Any thoughts?

I have to second this request. I'd be very much interested in some suggestions.

That said, I recently stumbled across PHP Guard Dog 2.0.

It didn't work on my Web server, but it might help you. Cost was less than $50, as I recall.

Had all of the features you mentioned and then some.

Egads! not sure I like the frameset based admin utility although the other screens seem to be pretty generic - ripe for templating.

However, anytime I read this in a EULA, I run away quickly.

"13. PHP Guard Dog makes no promises as to the ease or extent of upgrading from one integral version to the next"

Thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks for this...Seems to have much of what I need and the cost is nice ;)

One little disclaimer: if you are trying to integrate this into a site that already uses some other PHP/MySQL system (such as a blog), it might not work, unless you are not including it on a "blog" page.

(That is what happened to me when I tried to integrate it into Textpattern)
