Probably because HD videos are standard in 16:9 The typical ratio for a photo is 4:3 Screen resolutions vary from phone to phone

Typical ratios for photos is 2:3. Always has been since 36mmx24mm slides and negatives and still is for all DSLRs and most "Point & Shoots"
