“We aren’t perfect. Phones aren’t perfect.” - Famous words by Steve Jobs when he addressed the antennagate issue in 2010.

I do agree that nothing is, or can be, perfect. Phones included. Over the years we have had so many major/minor “gates” almost every iPhone release.

What’s the one defect you have zero tolerance for?

Mine has got to be the red tint and I’ve bought the 5, 6, SE 2016, 7, 8, XR, 11 PM on launch dates. Some of them came with their fair share of issues but the issues didn’t deter me to get the phone that year.

For me its scratches on the stainless steel out of the box, gaps, screen uniformity issues. These i have zero tolerance and they go back immediately.

Sounds like you just described an otherwise perfect phone minus all those : )....tough one to please. How about scuffed up camera lenses, you think that's acceptable?

For all the device’s i’ve owned, I’ve been pretty much lucky that I did not get a scuffed up camera lenses. But if I did get one, or even a dust inside the camera lens, those also aren’t acceptable to me either.

Sure I could take it to the genius bar and maybe they can disassemble the phone and remove the dust, but if it’s within 1 year, I refuse to have anyone open up my phone to do a surgery on it.

It’s a functional defect and I totally agree we shouldn’t tolerate it. This is why I’ve stopped buying my iPhones with carriers in my country. They don’t do exchanges and/refunds. You can only check for defects on the spot and once you’re out, whatever problems you have goes to Apple instead. No refunds.

Hahaha, it’s even harder for me, I have no Apple retail stores in my country, if i received defect phone, I just need to live with it without complain.

I had to learn the hard way about the “replacement lottery”: turning the phone in for an “unacceptable” issue, only to have another different “unacceptable” one take its place.

I’ve resigned to absolutely be happy with a phone that has an issue that isn’t deal breaking.

A red tinted screen would be a returnable offense… that one is a terrible problem. I had a piece of red thread in my 11 ultra wide lens that bugged me, but I couldn’t see any effect it had on usage, so I didn’t bother returning.

I had bad eye pain from the 12 mini last year so I had to return that one and get the 11 mentioned above.

I had a pristine 5s with a immaculate screen that I returned because the power button “rattled” when I shook it. That was the lesson learned for me about the return lottery because the screen of the replacement I got (as well as the two after it) were absolutely mind-numbingly terrible.

I just got a 13 mini and I ran the usual checks: screen discolorations and non-uniformity, any scratches, camera takes good photos, cell connection works, Wi-Fi works, Bluetooth works, speaker works… those are the things that would be returnable for me now (but the screen would have to be really bad to risk replacing an otherwise immaculate working phone). The screen on this mini has a very slight difference in color at the bottom of the screen that slowly changes as it rises to the top… but it’s super hard to notice and not in everyday. I have to be LOOKING for problems to notice it.

I’ll end on a fun story… my first iPhone was the 5c, and on the bottom right edge on the screen side, the blue plastic has three tiny dots of black on it. I saw it as a mark of ownership and uniqueness. I would probably view a small scuff or hairline scratch on the stainless steel the same way.

The pee yellowish tint, was a deal breaker. And the squable With Qualcomm made the XsProMax use Radio chipset made by Intel which could not get signal. Even though Sprint gave me a free one I had to turn it down.

My 13 Pro has dust trapped under one of the lenses. As long as it doesn’t affect photos or videos I’m not bothered. Is it ideal? No. I don’t think there’s any such thing as the perfect iPhone.

For reassurance, a few specks of dust trapped under the flat cover glass are likely not going to be in focus anyway :)

My 13 Pro was perfect until I decided to drop the leather case and use it naked. Within a day I had a pretty significant scratch in the steel frame. Since noticing that, I've stopped caring about insignificant blemishes. Just now, I completely wiped down the phone and inspected every bit in bright daylight and aside from that one scratch, there isn't a mark on it. These things are durable.
