This is my first Apple desktop. I have a 2016 MBP (first Macbook) that I will be selling because FCPX does not run well on it (turns the whole laptop into a toaster)

Not having Bluetooth problems (Logitech MX Master) Im using a wired custom mechanical keyboard (NightFox)

My monitor is a Dell 24" 4K screen (P2415Q) via HDMI. No Problems

https://www.dell.com/en-us/work/sho...15q/apd/210-agnk/monitors-monitor-accessories'

My sound for now is the Dell Sound Bar that attaches to the monitor via USB (had to go into system preferences to switch sound to the bar)

https://www.dell.com/en-us/work/sho...511/apd/318-2885/monitors-monitor-accessories

My only gripe is 8gb ram which Ill be replacing soon. I plan on getting a EGPU for FCPX as well.

This 4K monitor and sound bar are great. Ive been using it for my PC setup for about a year. Never had any problems.

where did you get this deal on the mac

So you bought it used off some Redditer? Why is this important other than bragging?
It's not and I didn't read anything which stated it was. I read his post as "Hey, I bought a new Mac Mini and I'm happy with it".

apparently he didn't read the 1st post. if you want to be salty go ahead~

Not salty. Just not sure why you felt it was important to put the price there. Just seems obnoxious to me. :)

I read it as, “hey I got this too-good-to-be-true price on the Mac mini. How cool am I? I know how much I paid for it is entirely irrelevant, but I’m still posting it for all to see.”

Good on you. I normally wait to buy used but had been watching and waiting for the mini for a long time. Plus I wanted a 1tb which would likely be difficult to find used. I’m also planning on upgrading the memory but for some reason the 8gb ram is serving me thus far. Just worked on FCP yesterday to suck in videos (non 4k) and was able to mark and pull out screenshot extremely fast.

I saw this listing and wondered if it will work OK in a 2018 Mini: https://goo.gl/wMz2Sh
I wonder how the price can be so much different than say OWC where is goes for over $500 for each 32gb.

My friend has two iMacs with gskill ram says it handles fcpx / Mac OS fine /shrug

With SSD / Ram price plummeting you are just better off getting something external.

I do have external - two 10tb drives .... I'm a pig for data, what can I say. I wanted 1 tb because it is faster and I don't ever want to deal with running out of room for programs, cache, etc. I have 256 on my PC and iTunes managed to fill it up with our iThings backups.

Move iThing backups to iCloud?
I’m wacky because I don’t trust icloud for backups. Plus I would need a family icloud subscription and I don’t do subscriptions for that sort of thing. I have off site backups plus Time Machine. On mac I was easily able to move the iThings backups to external. For PC I couldn’t do it until I installed iMazing. I was just saying you can run out of room on your boot drive without even trying. That is why I went 1 tb. If you tend to keep your machines for 5+ years I think it is worth the $400? $600? extra - even if that is highway robbery.

I don't know, my thunderbolt3 drive works as good as an internal + i can use it with my MBP too.
For less money and more storage. happy with 512GB, it's mostly empty now, due to everything being offloaded to the external :)

Yes, it was between the 500mb and 1tb for me. I just opted for the 1tb because we can afford it and I keep these things going for as long as possible. Plus I hated running out of room on my Windows machine. It was frustrating. My hubby? He just ordered the 500mb SSD mini for work. And we'll keep our broken 2013 iMac and put a used screen in it and a 500mb ssd on it. More than likely add an external spinner to the iMac running El Capitan for my crazy eyeTV stuff that doesn't seem to work anymore under Mojave (although I can export from eyeTV to .mov or .mpg4).
