Since UPS messed up my launch day order this morning - I ordered again this morning and went to the local store and picked up the watch I wanted. No worries, I'm ok with that.

Now, I'm sure there will be people on both sides of this - let's see.

I go in, am directed to the order desk and say I'm there to pick up my order.

He happily gets it for me and then confirms my ID and he hands me the cheap recycled box Apple is now using for these. Ok fine - save the world.

I wait.

Finally I ask "Could I have a bag for this please?"

He responds "Ooooh, um I'm going to have to charge you for that. We charge for bags now."

Are you F'n serious? First world problem I know but wow... talk about nickel and diming' your customers.

Never heard of them charging for a bag. Picked up 14 Pro Max the other day and she gave me a bag without even asking. That’s weird. How much was it?

We were in our local store last night (swapping out a watch band for my wife) and noticed they were giving bags out when people purchased items.

What state are you in? I remember a while ago hearing some cities / states were trying to eliminate single use plastics and were going to start charing to use things like plastic grocery bags.

Wow, I did a walk in this morning too. They were great and they automatically handed my order in the typical white bag.

In New York it’s a state law that businesses need to charge for plastic bags. I’m A state gets a portion of that revenue. GO GREEN!!!’ (Sarcasm……)

My local Apple Store had a table of nothing but bags. Some folks were even double bagging, no charge. This is in TX.

I'm actually in BC Canada.

Maybe it's a thing here? They actually had a stack of the nice paper Apple bags there on the table - and he pointed to them when saying I would have to pay. I picked up a M2 MBA about a month ago and was given a bag...

But - I told him no thanks.

I just cannot in good conscience pay a company (even if it's 25 cents) for a bag on a 'premium' purchase (which I consider many Apple products at that price point)

I'm glad everyone else got bags 😂 I hope to hear from someone else in BC...

Not to defend Apple, but if the city you live in is charging, like in the NY reply above, Apple is probably on board with trying to be green and encouraging its customers to be green too. Giving you a bag without charging isn't encouraging you to be green 🤷‍♂️

My old Apple Store was required to charge for bags. Plastic or paper. The store was not allowed to pick up the tab for it either. In my new city they don’t have have that law. No charge for a bag.

When I’m visiting California I have to pay for bags at Walmart. I actually don’t mind too much— those bags that I pay for are pretty robust and reusable. Unlike the ones locally that fall apart as soon as you put something in them.

Paying for a bag at the Apple store though… I’d probably say no too.

Some municipalities require stores to charge for bags to reduce waste. They want people to bring their own bags.

When I went to Germany (a small town not a big city) they didn’t even have bags at the register you had to pick up a reusable bag before checkout if you didn’t have your own.

Maybe... If only there was a way of checking local laws...

Ah well, better to slam Apple instead of researching.

I am in NJ where plastic bags are banned but I was happily given a bag when we purchased our Macbook Air last week at the Apple store.

California charges for bags, although don't think I've paid in an Apple store.

The local supermarket hides them now. Said people were stealing them. "Um, you guys used to give them away, so, um, the problem, again?"
