Just got back from a ATT retail store in NYC. Got there at 6 am, there were only 2 other people waiting. By the time the store opened at 7 am there was max 15 people in line, 10 of which had pre-ordered. ATT I guess changed the whole 2 line policy because they were letting pre order customers go in first but I waiting about 15 minutes until I was able to get in and grab my new 32GB black 3G S. Playing around with it now, the screen seems a lot nicer and it's definitely snappier. Would be interested in hearing how other people fared with ATT walk-ins.

yup activation took about 5 minutes tops. The ATT rep gave me the usual shtik about apple care, cases, etc etc. I also asked about MMS and tethering and he said that MMS supposedly will be out by the end of the month and tethering "later in the summer".
By the end of the month for MMS? That would be great! Lets hope its true. I don't care for tethering.
Showed up at 7, was like 6th person in line. Kind of lame they made us stand outside. They were doing in-store activation and people were in there browsing other phones and accessories while we waited for them to choose a case. Took about 30 minutes, would have been real slow if there was actually people camped out.

I didn't pre-order. They told me to go home. Wouldn't sell non pre-orders until 9:00 am.
I won't be buying from them when the time comes. What a joke.

got to the att store at 6:50 and walked out with mine at 7:06!

lol there was like 10 ppl at my ATT store all waiting for it..i come up at like 7:05..door is locked..sales guy comes in and opens the door asks if i got direct fulfillment..i say yes..lets me in..im the only 1 in the store, everyone is outside looking at me

got mine around 7:45 i got to the store at around 4:30. i was 4th in line but no one showed up until around 7am

I'm happy, save an issue with an upgrade swap, but hopefully that will fix itself(I'll go talk with them if not)

I ordered on the 14 th. It has not shipped yet. I went to AT&T this morning and the manGer said I can get one now and cancel the order when it arrives. So now I have a 3gs 32g before my order was even shipped. Best part is I was third in line at AT&T and was out the door by 7:20. I did not get there till 6:20.

1 person in the store buddy, that's why. They're not going to take my $300 because they imposed a 9:00 am opening for non-preorders? Yeah, that makes good business sense.
It makes complete business sense, it's unfair to everyone else who is following protocol and will show up at 9. Why should you be an exception?
