I just picked up an aTV 3 and bought Gatsby via iTunes last night. The video was okay….really good at times..but the stuttering [or whatever you want to call it] was annoying. The worst part in my opinion was the sound…not even close to bd. It reminded me of when I first started listening in surround sound in the early 90's. Apple seriously needs to up their game where surround sound is concerned.

How fast is your internet connection? I noticed on my dad's ATV3 his is constantly buffering due to low DSL speed not being able to keep up with the stream. But that's an ISP issue not an ATV3 issue. My ATV2 with cable modem streams nicely compared to my dad's.

When you watch movies on a BD player how is the surround sound? Are you sure everything is connected properly? The sound should decode properly is everything is connected. What's the quality of your receiver/speakers?

Our internet speed via TWC is 50mbps so that is not the issue. I use Vudu solely as it is very good in hdx with no hitch in video buffering, etc. The sound of bd movies is just incredible on my Oppo 103 but the Apple tv cannot process the new surround formats like True HD, etc. It reminds me of the early 90's when DD came on the scene. Vudu is not BD sound either but much better in my experience than iTunes.
