Picture in picture with tvOS 13 question

Is the small picture window only supposed to work within the TV app?

I was under the impression that it’ll persist even if I go back to the home screen and open other apps but seems picture in picture only works within the TV app itself. As soon as you exit the app the little video window goes with it.

I was under the same impression but it only worked within the TV app for me too. Not sure if it’s a bug or not.

It only works in TV app at the moment. Which begs the question, what's the point? Previous beta's did have it working outside the TV app(at least at the main screen)

When a movie or show is playing through the app you’ll see the split screen icon in the bottom middle of the screen. Swipe up and click it.

Can you turn picture in picture off? I'd rather not have it.
