Camera: Canon EOS 5D
Exposure: 0.003 sec (1/320)
Aperture: f/1.8
Focal Length: 85 mm
ISO Speed: 1600
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: Flash did not fire

What type of lens are you using?

heh, good bet.

85, 1.8 it is!

it's so easy to take good pictures if you have movie lighting at hand ;)

How much movie lighting could there have been you were at ISO1600

After snagging that link and looking at the original size that is amazingly noiseless , especially considering how much flat black there is all around....did you run any filters on that or is it just that nice?

Full zoom (original size) on the original shows some spotting and color differentials in the darker sections of her skin, nothing horrible though, especially considering that ISO.

I see some noise, but I think its inline with what the 20/30D will do. Its such an amazing difference coming from a 10D/300D sensor.

There is some there but given the ISO and such flat areas (which always seem to flare the noise quite violently) it seems really nice. Compressed it looks awesome, full-res there is a bit but I'm surprised.

I've never pushed my 20D all that much, I don't get into such low-light situations like that where I wouldn't just use a lower ISO and a long shutter (on pod)....but like I said I'm not in that situation where I'd need that fast shutter.

thanks for all the comments for the picture...
nope, i did not do anything with that picture, took it with picture style portrait in jpeg mode though, there was no time for a raw workflow...

she was moving all the time and the cam was handheld, so i needed quite a fast shutter, hence the iso 1600. it was lighted for a panasonic dvx100ae, which performs beautifully in low light, so there wasnt much lighting power but a few 300 and 500w arri fresnels (normal tungsten lights in sturdy package)

here's another one from that shoot

shot on 4th of june in lower austria, castle starrein

Camera: Canon EOS 5D
Exposure: 0.017 sec (1/60)
Aperture: f/2.8
Focal Length: 15 mm
ISO Speed: 1600
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: Flash did not fire

15mm fisheye 2.8 from canon
(that's a 1200w hmi lamp there)

I watched the slideshow of all of your images at Flickr, the entire project looked like a lot of fun and the movie looks pretty interesting too. The women are chasing that guy for his briefcase or him or what?

Not sure what the destiny of that film is but if it was shot for a project or something that can be shared, sign me up to check it out ;)

For some reason smugmug seems to mess with color rendition for anything but the original version so I resized this shot to be a good size. it should look good for those of you with 1.8 or 2.2 gamma monitors.

Those of you who have followed this thread may remember i've posted a few shots from the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Gardens, including a rather large iguana-type reptile. On my way out at closing time that day, I exited the conservatory building and suddenly saw a very colorful plant. The light was fading on what had become an overcast day already, my tripod was folded up, it was on the ramp on the way out, and the staff were ushering people out so I had to act quickly. Naturally the lens for the job was my 85mm PC Micro, which is tilt-shift, manual focus, and manual diaphragm. I didn't have a lot of light and there were people trying to get by me so I didn't have a chance to bump my ISO which would have been nice... so what I got was a wide open handheld shot, but it came out alright if you ask me.
