scotthayes, I like the first one. FYI, one photo a day, not one post a day![]()
Thanks,
Somebody else told me about the one post per day (in a less friendly way) but their post and my slightly sarcastic reply seem to have vanished.

I really like your shots and I love the colour of the sky in them. I can only really get skies that good using a polarizer. (welcome back to the Uk)Epicwelshman
your shots of Greece have been awesome they could be used as a promo by the Greek tourist board.xcalibre
awesome again, real character to your b&w shots, do your subjects ever complain at you taking pictures of them?m@Lew
Great job.
I always develop the raw image, which allows far greater parameters forgiving beginner error. I do have to work a bit to get many of my final images presentable from the original capture. Then sometimes, I get one spot on and I know not to twiddle with it.I'm curious as to how much PP you guys do.

You're getting better, taking after freebooter... Nice dark background and use of flash to make this work. Really great image from the kit lens. When you get your macro lens you'll be there. Keep it up!!

Thank you very much! Everyone here is a big inspiration to me! I love macro and my goal is to get pictures like Freebooter. My next lens purchase is going to be the 55-200mm VR, then I will get the 105mm macro soon after. I'm debating between the Sigma 105mm or the Nikon 105mm, the Nikon is twice as much as the sigma though!
Yes, it was a lucky shot. I had the camera ready for some grab shots, and this gull was sitting on the railing. I heard a kid running up behind me, figured he'd spook, and had a chance to grab a shot of this guy before he disappeared. Shows what a decent depth of focus the kit lens has at 18mm, even nearly wide open, making it a pretty good walkaround lens. That's awesome how you got him right in the middle of flight! I looks like he is getting ready to dive bomb something!
You might want to look at some older Nikkor 105 macros (I don't know much about them myself, but check them out) and even if they require the screw-motor auto focus, you'll probably do fine using them with manual focus on your D40. Just use a tripod, and focus manually - does anyone really use autofocus on macro shots? other than with point 'n shoots?

Thanks mate! I always enjoy your shots, great color and composition. I'll second you on the wide angle lens. I have a few cathedral shots from Hermosillo, Mexico that just don't quite make it due to lack of enough wide-angle perspective.

Thanks Silverbird, I especially like your last shot of the leaf with the drops! It is very reminiscent of Freebooter (who has seemed to have vanished as of late) .Wow! That is amazing! What PP did you do on this?
