Freebooter, you inspired me to try this out. About 5 hours of tinkering, and this is my first HDR image! Ye HAAAW! It turned out really weird, but I'm giving myself an B+ for effort (never was an "A" student).

This chest is hard carved from one piece of Mozambique (wood specie, not country)- It's about 2' tall. I just bought it for $100 bucks! I work with wood (specifically veneer) for a living so I'm a huge sucker for stuff like this.

I like the detail in this carving very much. Nice image.

For today, I have a picture from the Tour Eiffel last weekend. The view is from the tower north towards the Grand Palais and Pont Alexandre III.

Nice one. It doesn't look weird to me, just well lit.

$100 is a huge bargain.

I took up carving as a hobby, and found it the most rewarding but challenging creative work. However, I haven't done any since I moved to Korea (left my tools at home). Maybe I'll be inspired to do some with the local wood. I may just look for a Dremel this weekend...

A normal car no, it's not normal. but when you have 600+ horsepower and dual straight pipes coming from the engine, you might get a little back fire if you down shift real fast, or blip the throttle when downshifting. i see F1 cars do it all the time when they go into a turn, and downshift. they downshift so fast it amazes me they dont shoot 10 foot flames out the back, its usally about as large of a flame as that one is. I also remember a artical i read about a guy over in japan with a twin-turbo lambo diablo SV. He said he has about 1000+ horse coming out of it and it's fun to mess with the throttle at stop lights. Shoots blue flames out the pipes that go up at about a 45 degree angle :D. i love it.

Thank you! It took a few shots to get one where no passing car messed the lights up.
 
Wow what a long thread. I enjoy looking at everyone's pictures. Very relaxing. Makes me jealous of everybody's photo skills.

first flower

i was inspired by that lovely flower a few posts back by xper. I've not tried taking pictures of flowers before, so I went to the local cemetery and gave it a try :p

I found it can be really challenging getting them in focus with a nice background (especially if there's a slight wind and you're lazy like me and don't want to carry around a tripod).

Taken at Darling Harbour on Sept 22, 2006.

The photo was taken using my Tokina 12-24 mm at 12 mm focal length, f/11. My camera sensor sensitivity was set to ISO 400 for 10 seconds.

I find that I had used my Tokina 12-24 mm very rarely since I bought it, but I have used this lens during my favourite two shoots of the past 4 weeks, so the lens does pay off sometimes. :)

The Lester A. Dine lens is a line of Nikon/Kiron lenses made especially for the medical field: dentists and physicians valued them for their sharpness in doing clinical images. Mine is circa 1980's or early 1990's.

This is another building that is directly in front of my house. It blocks a lot of the sun pointing towards my house, so it keeps us cool in the summer. Nelson and Cote-St-Cathrine.
