Good times.
It's only nice right now because they finally finished landscaping/resodding it just in time for alumni reunion season.
For the past year it's been a cesspool of non-growth and general nastiness. It's very poorly kept during the year.

At my advanced age, cruisers are suiting me best. Nice thing about the Bird is it can air the wheel hitting second w. a hard throttle and gives me a jolt of adrenaline.

My Fixie
Back to real bikes
Here's my "new" fixie. The original road bike is a Raleigh America special edition (Reynolds 501c) from around 1988. Anyway, it got vandalised about 15 years ago so I finally decided to resurrect it as a fixie. (My first ride on a fixie was tonight after finishing the build - boy it's quick!)

My Own Giant Bicycle
This is my bicycle..Cypress model
This bicycle is 2005 Cypress and Sedona model bicycles. The bicycles come in both men's and ladies' styles and vary in size between 14 to 21 inches. "GIANT" and "Cypress" or "Sedona" are written on the bicycles' frames. A serial number is written on the bottom bracket of the bicycle, located near the pedals.

My parents wanted me to get more 'physical', so they offered to buy me a bike. Mind you, I haven't used this much, much to my dismay at the waste of money. But once it warms up a little after winter, I'll definitely trying to get back on it more often.
Sammich, it looks like they bought you one hell of a downhill bike. A Giant Anthem X2 is easily around $2500, and I can't even imagine the ridiculous price you got it for in Australia. Please use it.

I'll be using it now because you said 'please. I had a choice of bike, and we've had a few Giants in our stable, so naturally we went for them. It was the 2009 one and they were clearing them out in prep for '10 models, so I nabbed it for AUD$2000.

That's not even close to a downhill bike. This thing is a cross-country bike. Downhill bikes look like this:
I use Montreal's BIXI service. It's basically $78 for the year and you get unlimited access to the bikes. They way it works is that, the first 30 minutes are free, and then a small fee is charged for every 30 minutes after - they're meant for short trips, promoting leaving your cars at home, etc. They've got about 300 docks placed around the city placed at around 300m from each other.
My last bike was stolen, so I didn't bother buying a new one. I basically just use this to go to work and to the gym.

A Dyna-Tech frame, made by Raleigh's Special Products Division.
It's NOS, unused but with some scratches... which is good, because if it was perfect, it'd feel moderately guilty about stripping, repainting (a glossy battleship grey I'm thinking - though not sure whether to spray it myself or get it powder coated) and generally molesting it.
Unbelievable quality though... bonded (not welded) with a mix of Reynolds 531/653 tubing and comparatively light (even by contemporary steel standards) coming in sub 3kg.
Should form the basis of an excellent cross-country bike, being the frame only, I'm exonerated from going down the entirely retro-route, so it's going to be built up with contemporary bits & bobs… discs, maybe front suspension etc.
The main dilemma is whether to go down the derailleur route, or to consider a hub system (the new Alfine 11-speed or Rohloff), I've never been a spinner & default to riding in higher gears regardless, rather than spinning… that and I really love the clean & simple looks of derailleur-less bikes like the iO.

Don't have it yet, but I'm looking at getting the Trek 7.2 hybrid. I want to do some riding around town and around the parks for exercise so I don't need a road bike or a mountain bike, and this is a great in between styles.
