I've got a question for all you BMW manual tranny owners.

Do you ever accidently put it into reverse when shifting into 1st? or go over too much when going into 2nd?

Speaking for myself i have NEVER EVER accidently shifted to reverse. It take a good amount of push to get it pass the left (here in the us) to get it into the proper position to slide to "R". It's simple to shift first to six gear, but to put it into reverse, you really have to push it towards you until you feel a pressure just give in, then you slide to the area where there is only one gear "R".

Hope that makes sense. I have however 5 years ago accidently shifted into 2nd while going fast. I was on third and when the RPM's were at 5500 i shifted to second but meant 4th. I heard a loud crank and immediately took it out. Good thing nothing happened. BTW this was a loaner.

Nope! It's utterly impossible to do so. Reverse is spring-loaded, per-say.
