As much as most people didn't like the look of the Flower Power iMac, I really think it looks cool, I don't think the designs look that much like flowers, but more like a funky tie-dye job. I've been watching a few used Mac sites to try to find one, to put a bigger hard drive in and use as a file server.

I agree with you. Why does everyone hate them? Cold industrial computers suck, ideas like flower power are what make Apple cool :)

What's with all the hatin' on the LC520? :(
Ours is still going almost 11 years on. Sure, the HD died after a few years, and we've gone through several external APS drives ( ), but we could still use it to type a paper in ClarisWorks 5 and print it out on our StyleWriter II!

That is, if it was plugged in...

I have an SE/30 at home that I fired up just last month - still works like new. My wife occasionally asks me when I'm going to throw it out - makes me wonder if she even knows who I am.

What always gets me thinking when I see these is what would the original designers of the first all in one Mac say if they saw the latest one....

Probably something like "A 64MB GeForce FX 5200?!?! How the hell am I going to be able to play UT2004 on THAT?!??!"

Couldn't resist :)

Am I wrong?

In the picture he shows the 10th anniversary Mac (you know, the one with the bose sound system), but he labeled it as the 20th anniversary Mac. Am I wrong? I thought this year was the 20th anniversary of the Mac, and i Haven't seen any computer like that come out. Just thought i would point that out, I'm sure it's just a type. Either way, it's a really good picture. :)

The TAM was for the 20th Anniversary of Apple, the company - not the Macintosh proper. Apple, of course, started off making the Apple I, ][, etc. a number of years before the Macintosh came out in 1984. The TAM == 20th Anniversary Macintosh.

The time course of development has been short enough that most of the people who developed the original all-in-one Mac are probably still around here somewhere. I'm sure there are comments from some of them and at least one is floating around google--It's just a question of patience. But I agree, would be interesting to hear.

And its also interesting to realize that Apple has been the most successful in providing an all in one computer from the very beginning.....there aren't that many others out there, and none that have last as long.

D

That's a very good point about which I had not thought.

Seeing the mac OSes over history is fun. It's fascinating to see not only how the physical computer evolved, but also the user interface.

Link

The site can also be found in my signature. It's the GUIde.

PowerMax and SmallDog are good places to start.

LOL. I just really hate to end sentences with prepositions, especially in writing.

maybe it's that old school jewish way of talking. Like when Bobby Hill started talking like that on King of the Hill

that jewish way of talking? I doubt that.

Maybe just a stuck-up, anal retentive way of talking.

Criticizing perfectly good sentences aside....

I don't like it for myself, but I do like it just as a weird and unusual option. Kinda like how I'd never put a bunch of lights in a PC with a clear case, but I can see the fun in it all the same.

I do think the LC520 is pretty ugly--like several different blocks of mismatched things jammed together. And yet... the Performa version of that was the first Mac I (reluctantly) recommended to someone... back in my Mac-hating days when someone who was dead set on a Mac wanted my help choosing the best model. (Even then I secretly lusted after a Duo... but that model didn't make sense in this case.)

Actually I never knew there had been something like: Power Mac G3 All-In-One!!!
I knew it existed, but until I saw one in person I didn't realize just how rounded--and translucent--it was. It even had a giant clear Apple logo on each side and came in a colorful cube box like the iMac (and now eMac) came in. It was truly the first iMac, in everything but name. But it was an edu-only model like the eMac was at first.

It's weird but I like it. Built-in Zip, floppy, and optical. Even dual headphone jacks--NOT an iMac first. It had a 15" screen with swivel stand, and could mirror to an external display.

And unlike an iMac it hadn optional composite/S-video IN and OUT! And THREE PCI slots.

Translucent and beige styles combined. Weird!

I think it was Mac the Knife that called it Tommy the Tooth :D Molar Mac is fitting too. The top even has 4 "cusps" and a low spot in the middle like a tooth.

And my own ranking for looks: The iMac G5 is the best design ever, followed by my very own eMac, with the iMac G4 taking bronze (plus bonus points for the slick mechanism). Then the TAM below--another Mac I secretly wanted even while hating Macs on principle. The original iMac would be next--Snow, Sage and Ruby are my color preferences :)

And if I'm not limited to AIOs, the PRE-Mirrored PowerMac G4 (with the thick clear handles but no "speed holes") has to be the coolest desktop ever, viewed purely as art. The current Apple laptops are among the nicest-looking computers ever, too (especially when the iBooks still had the clear, glassy finish), and the current PowerMac should get honorable mention. It does fit Apple's current style better than the G4 towers did. I really like the looks/shape of Apple's clear mouse, too. (But don't go there!)

If you want more images of any of these, Google Images is your friend.

That would be the Quicksilver.

There is/was a neat AIO G3 hack on Applefritter, but thanks to the redesign, I can't find it.

All in one macs are kool, but i think from my expierence with them I personally am better off getting a tower an monitor. Those were some kool pics tho. :)

I can't edit my original post due to the new image limit (10 per post), but here's how the story ends today :)

I like them too, along with the Blue Dalmation. They didn't sell too well, and interestingly enough, they demand a price premium on ebay.

Yeah, I just had a look on ebay, there's only 2 in the UK and one has a Buy Now price of £300.
