Pictures fail to be taken when there are many faces in the frame

It seems that if there are many (> ~5) faces in the frame that are recognized and "boxed" by face recognition, attempts to take pictures are unsuccessful. The camera app will make the sound, but the controls become unresponsive, and the picture is never taken.

Has anyone else noticed this? I've seen this happen on two iPhone 5s's both running iOS 7.0.4.

Yes, it's a known issue. IIRC, if you leave the phone alone and let it process the picture it will sometimes be OK.
