ipone car install

I would like to state that the jawbone is head and shoulders better than the apple bluetooth--and I usually am totally loyal to apple--anyone of you peeps want to install your set up in my vw? ( I am in mass.)

Which iPod did you have in your Icelink before - 4G or 5G?

I have a 4G at the moment, I wonder if the iPhone will fit in the Icelink straightaway?

Do you have to put it in airplane mode, or does the audio work fine, just like your ipod? Also, do you think steering wheel controls will control the iPhone (like they do for the iPod, well on my MINI anyway), and will text be output to the headunit, like the iPod does?

I've used a 3G 4G 5G and nano in it with no problems. I did have to make a back for it so that the iphone doesn't jiggle in it. I just used some playing cards and used electrical tape to put them together. When I plug it in it asks if i want to put it in airplane mode but i don't and it works fine. when a call comes in the music fades and i can hear the ringer fine. I do have to use the speaker phone so that is a bit of a downside. also when i get an email the song cuts out a little bit. I assume is the new mail noise but i just can't hear it over the music.

I will have to get pictures of my set-up1 the only draw back is that I already have a Zodiac 2 semi-perminantly mounted in the dash ,were the Iphone could be in better use and I mount the Iphone with a Window suction gripper thing I can't quite remember t he name of it but It works.

Ohh! And I see that some are worried about being able to just answer the phone thought the car speakers! I keep the built-in microphone (on the Iphone) free from obstruction, I guess I am trying to say I don't use the dock, I just shaved the Audio cable down to work in the Iphone, and to the stereo. I have made calls on it and all anyone says is that they can here there voice echo- which is common when there voice is coming from my stereo speakers at such a high volume. They all say they can here me fine, and I don't use any external mic.

Pictures coming soon!

Power?

Did you run a 12v cig adapter to the iPhone dock power connection? Like a Belkin or something?

Or split a 30pin connector cable open and directly wire the 12v to fusebox?

Or skipped the power altogether?

I have no line in or tape player in my '04 Ford F350 Longbed, so I'm installing the Scoech (spelling?) FM Antennae cable interface with RCA Left and Right line in. Supposedly a good unit from what I read. I could then RCA L/R that to the stereo jack output on the iPhone adapter from behind the dash.

Love the factory look with the paint on the iPhone adapter by the way! Good job.

How does the iPhone dock work? Does the ringer,mail/sms/voicemail notifications come through the speakers or the iPhone?

I hope they all come out of the iphone, reason being, is I will always have the iphone docked in the car when I am driving, but I don't always have the stereo on. So if the stereo is not on, then I cannot hear the calls or notifications. Hopefully apple will fix it this way, or give us an option if it is not already.

ipod in vehicle

Over a year ago, I had taken my 2004 Jeep liberty to a local car installation dealer. I gave them my dock to mount in the console. The Jeep has the factory deck that allows connection to a multi cd changer. The dealer sells the Peripherial cable for different cars. This allows you to control the iPod with the factory deck. Of course you can control the ipod on it's own. We can see the videos playing from above if need be.
Our little girl can watch from the back. This is okay. But the idea is to have the ipod semi visible, keep factory deck but the Jeep was loaded up with hidden Alpine speakers and a big amp under the back seat.
PS the iphone will work in airplane mode.
This stereo kicks ass. I have used cassette, fm transmitter and audio direct into a touch screen deck with RCA jacks, but this iPod adaptor with the peripherial cable works best.

iPod Dock in Jeep

As for hitting potholes, this ipod stays in the dock. That is one thing I wanted to prevent from happening. I tend to drive through some tough terrain with the Jeep Liberty. The iPod nano we have goes into the dock for the rough rides.

Toughest potholes are to be found in Winnipeg, Manitoba!

PS: the iphone I tried and it worked, but I don't own one yet, no carrier in Canada yet. It's coming!

Is that an iceLink? The thing that bothers me about my iceLink and iPod is that the iPod interface gets replaced by Dension's non-interface when plugged in.

Looks like that doesn't happen with the iPhone.... true?

I have this one in my renault and I have the normal interface on my iPod. Basically it is an iceLink but sold and installed by renault. It's and old picture, I replaced my iPod with a 80 gig video and it acts just the same.

I just need/want somewhere safe to set my iPhone when I'm in the car. Any mounts out there you guys know of just to cradle the phone perhaps to the window or something like a treo would have

wow... So many posts since i checked last! Lots of really great setups here!! Also surprised to see so many vw cars on here! Thanks for the kind words too!

Cool! I'll post pictures of my car install this weekend. I just got the Pro-Clip system. Expensive, but solid and very functional (tilt/swivel). I had already installed a "Neo Ion" from mp3yourcar.com (which ended up being a rebranded product from a company called peripherial), and luckily that worked!

Pics to come...

Can't wait! I'm looking into the ProClip mounting system as well.

Anyone done an iPhone mount job in a jeep wrangler?

I'm currently mulling over my options, which with the wrangler are basically anywhere you can drill.

How would one go about putting an iphone chargeing playing system into an older car like say a 1985 Toyota MR2, it has the knobby tape player so i can't install an aftermarket deck. I thought about Harman/Kardon Drive+Play but I don't know if it would work with the iPhone can anyone confirm or deny this?

Go nuts!

And get rid of that factory sound system once and for all!

If you haven't used Crutchfield before, you're in for a treat.

They will literally walk you through installations, staying on the phone with you while you do it.

Personally, I'm partial to Alpines, but it looks like there are lots of options there that will fit a mister 2.

For example, the Alpine CDE-9870

Completely agree with you, Pro-clips system is the best-of-the-best, no doubt...

I love the stock look, the above are nice set ups as well...

didn't have time to take pics this weekend. love the pro-clip though. I'll try to get some shots of it in my accord today.

These are all great installations but I want something that allows me to rotate my iPhone freely so I can use Google Maps in portrait mode and iTunes Coverflow in landscape mode.

Anyone have a solution like this??
