Pictures Locked?!?!

Why are pictures locked?!?!?! I click "Unlock" when resizing in Preview and it doesn't always Unlock. It's a dumbass feature, is there anyway to make it stop doing this annoying ****???

This raises a question for me about auto-save.

Do I now have to select some sort of option to discard changes beyond simply not choosing to save something?
