I'm definitely not against children having games to play, but this is truly sad. Huge tech innovations popping up daily and Tim has a play date with someone in a costume.

Ah, I can see why they would do it from a marketing perspective: cute social media pics to illustrate a visit from the team behind a huge franchise.

What irks me is that this article moves the side show into the headline. The Apple execs didn’t “meet Pikachu”. They met with the Pokemon team and had a photo-op with a person in a Pikachu suit.

Tim Cook shared an inside look at the work he is doing behind the scenes as he prepares to step down as Apple's CEO next week. Cook has been preparing incoming CEO John Ternus for the transition over the last several months, and today he introduced Ternus to popular Pokémon character Pikachu.

Cook said he and Ternus met with the Pokémon team to talk gaming. The accompanying video features Pikachu exploring the Apple Park campus, including dancing under the rainbow arch and picking an apple from the orchard.

It's not clear why the Pokémon team was at Apple Park, but Cook first met Pikachu in September 2025 on a trip to Japan for the reopening of Apple Ginza in Tokyo.

There are several Pokémon-themed games available on Apple's platforms, including Pokémon GO, Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket, Pokémon UNITE, and Pokémon Champions.

Many of us longtime Apple customers have envisioned an Apple/Nintendo merger for decades now. Nintendo would be a really good fit for Apple. A Nintendo Switch 3 powered by an A or M series chip would be a very formidable console. I’d love to see Apple and Nintendo get closer even if it’s just branded merch for now.

Cook literally puts an apple in Pika's "hand" in the video. You may not be far off.

Also, Nintendo just announced a collab with Polaroid, timed with Pokemon's 30th anniversary, so they seem to be in the mood.

Pokemon is the most successful media franchise ever, with sales of + $130B. That's double Mickey Mouse, the runner up. And it's gotten there in 30 years, not 100. Apple could pick a worse partner for a collab.
