PIN for Apple TV on iPhone?

After updating tvOS and iOS I noticed when I go to use my iPhone as the Apple TV remote it asks for 4 digit PIN to connect. It never asked this before. I tried the passcode to my iPhone but it’s not working. What am I missing here?
