I periodically notice that the pinch-to-zoom, using my magic trackpad, stops working after I've been browsing in Safari for a while.

I've been (pleasantly) surprised at how useful I find PTZ, and I use it quite a lot to optimize the size of the text in my browsing window. I do find that quitting and then restarting Safari always restores the functionality.

I'm just curious if a) other people have encountered this phenomenon; b) if I'm doing something wrong to cause it to happen; and c) if there is any way - short of quitting and restarting Safari - I can restore it during a browsing session.

Thanks for any insight.

I too have the same issue, but only on my MBA. Everything else works, but pinching to zoom just stops. Then if I quit and restart safari it works again. Very queer.

Yes...

The Pinch/Zoom failure also happens on my 2010 MBPro.

I too would be delighted to learn how to re-activate that thread.

There's a workaround. You can set BetterTouchTool to press the CMD + button for you when you zoom out.

It's slower and nowhere near as satisfying.
