Have been using PiP via Safari on YouTube since launch with no issues. Now, it doesn't work. When I click on the icon to launch the video into PiP, it starts to launch and then just sends the video back to the browser window. See the video below. Any ideas? I have restarted my phone and it didn't help.

I can successfully launch PiP via Safari on Apple.com videos that aren't hosted on YouTube.
I can successfully launch PiP via the TV app.

This seems to just affect YouTube videos in Safari/Chrome/etc.

EDIT: Seems my iPad is still able to do PiP, however my wife's iPhone 6S does the same thing as my iPhone. So maybe iPhone specific?

Same problem on 11 pro max. Worked fine all morning until about 2 hours ago. Now it immediately pops back into the native window.

Well ... that feature was long loved and short lived.

Wow! It was working fine up until last night when I was using it. Now today it doesn’t work on my XS Max. But it still works on my iPad.

It must be using user-agent sniffing. If you `Request Desktop Website` and then use PIP, it works. This is a bs move, google.
It’s just Google trying to get there $13 a month for YouTube premium or whatever the hell they call it now. I mostly watch YouTube on my desktop with an ad blocker so Google can shove their premium crap

Request desktop doesn’t seem to be working for me. I’m on iOS 14.2 beta.

I doubt Apple would behave much differently if the roles were reversed.

The annoyance with YouTube Premium is they insist on bundling their horrible music service which eats up most of the monthly cost. I'd happily pay $5-6 a month for YouTube Premium without music, because background playback, ad-free across all devices is something I do see value in.

I'm not giving up Apple Music to switch to YouTube Music. And I refuse to be effectively paying for two music services a month by tacking on a YouTube Premium subscription.

Apple does behave like this. It's a business so it's expected. Look at the cross app tracking protection with iOS 14.. No wait it's not there. Look how easy it is to install ad blocking extensions like uBlock Origin to Safari... Wait you can't anymore. All you can do it try your best to get the best for your money.
