I really don't understand how people could have been expecting a complete movie. It's been pretty well established that the filmmakers were making #2 and #3 at the same time, and that #3 is coming out next summer. It's the exact same thing as the Kill Bill films: collectively the story was too long for one film, so it was split into two.

I guess I was in the minority who expected a partial story going in, and I think I enjoyed the movie a lot more because of it. It wasn't as good as the first, but I wouldn't lump it into the Matrix category.

I enjoyed the second Matrix movie. I thought it had great potential after that. However they managed to ruin it in the third for me. That's why I currently bring up the Matrix. I liked this movie, it has a lot of potential to be a good trilogy but since we haven't seen the third they still have the chance to completely mess it up. I hope they don't pull a Matrix but that will be told next summer.

POTC2 is awesome, thought it was on par witht the first, and was particularly impressed with the CGi of Davy Jones' crew, etc

Can't wait fo rthe third film!

Cheers

I saw it and thought it was okay. I like the first one much more and thought this one was trying too hard to be funny/quirky where as the first one was naturally funny/quirky. I wasn't a fan of the score either. I thought it was too overt in some places (ex. when they started swinging in the ball cages I felt like the music was lifted out of a freakin' Benny Hill skit).

I just want to know why they fired all the editors and script writers for the second film? Two and half hours that meanders all over the place and can't be saved by some very good actors.
Same director, writers, and editors. The problem is trying to catch lighting in bottle for a second time.

My guess is that the filmmakers ended up with one 3.5 hour movie and had to pad things out to make it two films.
Nope. The plan all along after the success of the first one was to make 2 and 3 at the same time.

It was a summer action movie - to ask it to be profound or more than that, is asking too much. I liked it - it wasn't as good as the first one, but the first one was all new.

They added some mundane evil guy in the mix, which I think worked nicely, and Davy Jones was great-eh. I'm looking forward to the third one next year and although I could have seen them doing a lot of things a little bit better, its a fun movie.

They would have been better off finishing the movie with a real ending and not leave it hanging, though. I keep thinking they were trying to do an Empire Strikes Back and didn't quite get it.

Well put. Even as an action movie, I thought it was a little lacklustre though. Still glad I saw it. :)

I thought that scene was hilarious. :D

I didn't really like it. It never seemed like it was going to end. It was like a bunch of little stories mashed together. I could not understand that oracle lady.

what i still don't understand after seeing it 4 times is how the betting game worked..

You bet on how many of a number there are. The number of dice you say has to stay the same or go up, the value of the die can only down if the count goes up. Its like bridge bidding. :)

If I say there are 3 fives, you can say 3 sixes but to say threes you have to say there are 4 of them. The trick to winning is either nail the highest value, or to make the other person think you have.

I played a variation where you play multiple rounds and the looser looses a die, making it progressively harder to catch up. I am pretty good it at it. Only due to mad crazy math skillz though.

Definitely not as good as the first one but that's expected. The second part of a trilogy is always kinda bleh (Matrix, and LotR). I'm really looking forward to the 3rd one, should be great.

I loved the first one. This film has had very mixed reactions and i did not particularly like it. The twist at the end (i wont say for people who haven't seen it) was so predictable. The look of Davey jones did not appeal to me either. I do not like the surreal and i was expecting him to be a bit different and not so squidish.

hey

pirates of the carribean is the best and johnny depp and orlando bloom are hot in it !!! lol its a must see

good special effects, so much so that it made me squirm. those "things" were gross! i thought it was pretty good overall but i did prefer the first one.

Don't shoot me...but I couldn't follow Pirates of the Carribbean II

Neither could I.

Well, I could follow 10% of it, but I couldn't understand how Will's father, Bill Turner Sr., was added to the story. I mean, he was dead because he was killed by his crew, no?

Sorry, it had been so long since I saw the 1st movie that I didn't understand things like that. I spend so long trying to figure out the movie that I completely forgot to just enjoy it.

Also, how could that captain be at the end of the movie? I thought he died in the 1st movie? I definitely remember him being stabbed or shot or something while he was "invincible," and then Will Turner (Jr.) dropped his blood into the treasure chest and then the captain died.

Oh that compass of Jack's: It didn't work, right? I mean, it worked, but did it literally point to the thing you desired most (ie: the Aztec gold chest in the 1st film, and the heart of Davy Jones in the 2nd film?), or did it always just point to the heart of Davy Jones?

I never figured it all out. They're pirates, they're either dead or undead, there's the Oracle woman - new life?

Plus...it's a movie!

..in the commentary to movie 1 they said that bootstrap is still alive somewhere because he took a piece of the gold and became immortal but he hated what the crew did to Jack so he sent away his piece of the gold to Will saying that "they deserve to be cursed". So the gold was gone and the Pirates cant remove the curse... Barbossa then tied a cannon to bootstrap and pushed him overboard..and he was alive on the ocean floor and Davy came and made him part of his crew.

Tia is a voodoo lady she brought Barbossa back from the dead..when Jack first goes to see her..and she relseased Jack the monkey..he runs over to a pair of legs (corpse of barbossa) also Barbossa's hat is there..and as they first approaced the swamp..Barbossa's typical music from movie 1 played lol.

Jack's compass isnt working because he has Elizabeth on the brain..that line "why is the rum always gone" was supposed to signal that but it went over loads of people's heads lol(mine included). Jack's compass keeps pointing at Port Royal where Elizabeth is and then to the furthest point away and back and forth back and forth...meaning Jack is worried about making Liz a partner in his life Ted Elliot (one of the script writers) mentioned this on keeptothecode.com (the official Disney site). And boxofficemojo.com he spoke about the little battle that was raging in Jack's mind over Elizabeth. Want me to post what he said about what the compass was doing for Elizabeth and Jack when they looked at it? :)

Wow, someone's a fan. ;) Thanks.

I saw the movie a second time, and pretty much understand all of it. :)
