Why are people going Pitaka Air over MagEZ?

I realize that the Air is 0.2mm thinner which is equal to 2 sheets of paper and 7g lighter, but is it something you actually feel or notice?

Different Aramid Fiber may feel different in hand and I have read that the Air is less fingerprint prone.

Either have more rounded edges or more rubbery feel?

I may just go EZ as it works with Pitaka's MagEZ mount for use in the car, but I'm not driving too much right now working from home, so not really a deal breaker.

I have both in my cart waiting to see what type of discount they run Black Friday.

I used the Evutec Karbon Value case on my iPhone 11 which I really liked and that is supposed to be 0.7mm thick so in between the Air at 0.65mm and MagEZ at 0.85mm.

I have the Air on my 12 Pro Max. I've had Pitaka cases on my prior two phones as well, but this was my first time getting the Air, and I'm glad I did. The thinner profile is noticeable for sure. The older cases I had were great too, but the thinness of the Air makes it an upgrade imho. That being said, I do need to keep a magnetic platel inside the case to mount it in my car. But I'm hoping stronger magsafe car mounts will come out soon so I can ditch the plate.

How is the feel of the Air as compared to the MagEZ? Is it still the soft, rubbery type feel? Any softening of the edges with the Air case. I had tried out a Totallee/Peel type ultra thin case but edges were sharp with a heavy phone like the Max. Using a cheap TPU clear right now with a Totallee clear TPU incoming. Pitaka has 20% off for BF so debating between the two as I was also looking at the Mag mount for the car. What metal plate do you use inside the Air case for the mount?

I have a 12pro EZ case brand new I would sell anyone. DM for details

I had the Evutec and hated it.
First off it felt rubbery. I thought the aramid fiber would have more of a matte feel to it but it’s very slick. Almost like a silicone case.
Next thing is the sides were much thicker than they need to be because instead of making them flat to match the phone they have 4 little grooves all around the perimeter. It’s a phone case not a snow tire!

They of course had to bulk up the edge to allow for the grooves.
I got a PU leather case that is actually slimmer. When leather is thinner than aramid fiber something is very wrong.

I also hated the buttons. The buttons actually have slits cut around the button covers to make them more flexible, I suppose, but to me those slits are simply opportunities for dust and dirt to get inside the case and scratch the phone.

This one? This one has a rubber/TPU bumper around it and is more like the Pitaka MagEZ Pro case which is a beefy case and not yet available from Pitaka for the 12 series yet.

The MagEZ is like the Evutec Karbon Value and the Air is thinner than both. These are more like a shell with open buttons and open top and bottom.

This one.
The others weren’t available when I ordered but I wouldn’t want a case with open buttons/top/bottom anyway.
If I wanted those areas open I wouldn’t need a case 😄

I ended up with a Molzar case.

That version is not the same as the shell type I am talking about. The one you bought is more like an Otterbox or a hybrid case.

The shell type, MagEZ or Air, are 0.030” and 0.025” thick. About the thickness of 2 or 3 sheets of paper. They are both made entirely of Aramid Fiber.

I get it but their aramid fiber was still slick and rubbery. Showed every fingerprint too. It may just as well have been silicone.
And with the EZ or Air why use a “case” that leaves 1/4 of the phone unprotected?

I used the Evutec Value on my 11 and XS Max before that and dropped them both a few times and no worse for the wear.

They protect the corners and sides. How they wrap around the corners and partially along the bottom you would need to drop it on the edge of something to hit the side of the phone without hitting the case.

The Pro Max is a big phone so just looking for minimal protection without adding bulk and some grip is a nice bonus. The silicone are about 4 or 5 times as thick. Nice grip and feel but too thick for me on the Pro Max.

I have used skins in the past but don’t care for the feel of them.

Naked is an option and how I have been using it a lot working from home but I throw a case on it when I have to go into the office or out in general.

I still have a Pitaka air case from my iPhone 11 Pro that I will compare to the Pitaka Mag EZ for my 12 Pro Max once I get it. I’m waiting for the blue/black case and Black Friday sale. I will say that I’m super impressed at how well the air case held up on my 11. It was the perfect mix of protection and thin-ness, grip and slick-ness, it’s not sticky but it adds grip. Kind of hard to describe. If it ever got finger prints or grease smudges, it cleaned up very easily.

The blue/black case is only available in the MagEZ version and does not show a discount. The others (black and red) and the Air in black show 20% off.

Nice catch. I didn’t realize that. I’ll still get the blue since I’ve been waiting for it and it’s really only $10.

I have been looking at that and then the Air in black.

Blue is still showing as “Coming Soon” so I don’t know if they will have it up for order tomorrow or not.

Funny enough I am deciding between the Air and MagEZ for my 12 Pro coming in tomorrow. MobileReviewsEh on YouTube had a great comparison of both but essentially it was down to the Air being thinner/more dense material without the magnet and ultimately that's what I'm going to go with.

Pitaka's BF sale just started a few minutes ago so it's 20% off both the MagEZ and Air - not too bad.

Picked up the Air only as the Blue for the ProMax was still “Coming Soon” and could not be added to my cart.
