I'll try to find a vid of my cat on her wheel. It's temporarily out of commission since we moved a month or so ago and haven't found a place for it yet.
Back to the Pixel 3 / 3 XL. Has anyone installed a Whitestone Dome screen protector? The plastic one I have on right now is just not cutting it. It's a fingerprint magnet and feel bad. I hear nothing but great things about the dome but I'm nervous about installing it. Also not sure how easy it is to remove down the line.

Glare is a problem for me on most devices, too. I read at the lowest brightness settings possible. On iOS I’ve tried reducing white point, but that sometimes aggravates my migraines on the Xr display. I have anti glare coating on my glasses, but that helps very little. The trick for me is to try to find the brightness setting that best works with whatever ambient lighting I’m in. I’ve never found any particular product that works.
I’ve not yet seen the night mode on the 3XL. On my Pixel 2 it’s very yellow.
On my Xr it’s uneven, a tiny bit blotchy. So at night I read on my iPad mini where night mode works best. Sigh. Sorry it’s not the help I’d like to share with a fellow glare sufferer.
Have you seen the video of the bird that is meowing in front of the cats? It is hilarious

😱 That’s incredible! That bird looks like he’s the teacher to those kittens. I like how he intimidates them when they get too curious and up in his (or her?) face.
Animals are so interesting. I had a cat who loved to play Fruit Ninja on the iPad and an app made for cats by Purina. She was pretty good on both. My mom had a cat who used to sit on my lap and type on the computer. Then she would backspace to erase and then type some more to fill the screen again. 😀 She also played the piano and her original compositions actually were pleasant to listen to. Better than my own, actually. 😱 She didn’t like to be seen at it though. We’d hear the piano and walk into the room and she’d stop and jump away.
Anyway...back Pixel 3XL, my husband let me use it a little bit and wow, it is so light! 😱
Compared to the XS Max and my Xr in a Caudabe thin clear case the 3XL feels like a feather. And the display looks so nice. My husband says he’s loving some caller screening app he’s got on it. And he’s got Visual Voicemail working on it. He had to call AT&T and deal with some aggravation getting their call center to activate it but it got done finally.
He’s willing to make it his daily driver since he can still use his Apple Watch as a watch and fitness device. He doesn’t use his Apple Watch for notifications anymore the way I do.
If this trial period works out he is willing to make a permanent switch to the Pixel.
He really appreciates that when he gets into the car it does not automatically start playing whatever music or book he was listening to last. That drove him nuts on the iPhone.
I think he’s had good call quality on it. He likes using it on the stand. I watched it wake him up this morning. It got all sunny in our dark bedroom all of a sudden. 😱 Then the alarm went off a little after that. Very cool but it’s a bit of a surprise to witness it for the first time. 😀
It’s been quite a successful gift. I’m so glad I traded my S8+ in for it. I do have a serious case of phone envy. I am going to try to get Snowball set up as similarly as possible.

I am 52. I met a guy at the beach a few months ago who was probably late 60’s early 70’s who was snapping away on his first gen Pixel. He loved the camera but said he wasn’t fond of the phone overall. 😛 We got talking about our Pixels. Even the first gen Pixel was taking some excellent pictures.
You’ll probably find that the current crop of 60-70 somethings is more tech savvy than is usually expected of older generations. After all, a lot of them had a hand in making the internet what it is today and in advancing the concept of home computing. Yeah Bill Gates isn’t quite up there yet and neither would Steve Jobs be were he still alive but they both learned from and employed people who were a good 10-20 years or more older.
Assuming you’re not a disbeliever in the moon landings, well then the surviving guys that got us there are all old farts now. 😛
My grandma, who died just a couple of weeks short of 100 almost 9 years ago, is probably from the last generation that lived and died without any real opportunity to use smart phones or iPads very extensively.
Even my dad who is 80 and my father-in-law who is in his 90’s now have used iPhones. My father-in-law uses Amazon Echos to make phone calls since he’s gotten limited vision in the last few years. My mother-in-law was using desktop computers up until she moved to their retirement apartment and decided to downsize. Then she switched to iPads which she used regularly with decent proficiency until a stroke a little over a year ago messed up her sight.
Meanwhile I’ve got a now Millennial niece who in her late teens needed my then preschool daughter to show her how to get around on an iPhone. 😕
It seems to come down more to interest and need above age or even natural aptitude to determine who you will find using these devices.

I had to at least temporarily move my primary SIM back into my iPhone as we have a phase at work where I can’t afford to miss phonecalls and that’s why I need my Apple Watch to sync with my phone.
I’m now two days back into using the iPhone full time and I’m getting some serious Pixel withdrawals. Maybe I’ll need to order a SnapDragon Wear 3100 watch abroad as they’re not yet available in Finland.
For example If I hadn’t taken a look at my Pixel today I would’ve missed plugging in the block heater for my car, but thanks to a notification that I actually notice I saw that tomorrow’s going to be colder than I remembered. And don’t get me even started on how much nicer it is to control Spotify with Google Assistant compared to Siri.

A block heater for your car? Whoa, 😱 it must really be cold in Finland. I know what one is but I have never seen one in use. South of the Mason-Dixon Line in the US, we get cold but not quite that cold. Brrr
I also need my notifications from my Apple Watch. However, I did okay getting them from FitBit a few months ago. It’s just that FitBit support for Android phones has been inconsistent. It was not available at all for my S9+ when I wanted to set it up to test on Android. I haven’t checked recently to see if I can get it working with my Pixel 2. Or a 3XL.

Block heaters are rather standard equipment here. It’s typically good for the engine to pre-heat (and this is where I constantly get a George Carlin flashback) a bit when it’s -5 Celsius (23F) or colder. Tomorrow it’s -8 (17.6F) here and -21 (-5.8F) up norther where I lived for the first 24 years of my life. You’ll notice when you start a car that hasn’t been heated at all in those temperatures 🙂
However, my iPhone has at least one advantage compared to my Pixel. With the fancy touchscreen gloves that I got from my wife for Christmas I can actually use my iPhone with a tempered glass screen protector up to the capacitive home button, unlike with the cheap touchscreen gloves I used to have. My Pixel works with the gloves when there’s no screen protector, but with the glass protector it’s a no go. However, I’ve busted a couple of screens with accidental drops so I’m not quite ready to go naked with the Pixel, especially when there’s no official service for it here.

Yep, block heaters are mandatory in Canada where I live.
I also use Nokian winter tires made in Finland!
I'm still tossing around the idea of getting a 3XL.

You can get block heaters on order in the US in most car models but usually not at the dealer.
Pixel 3XL is a gem. I haven't been this happy with an Android device ever. I haven't been happier with a phone since my white iPhone 4S. That was just a special device for me.

My Totallee case came in today. I'll try and snap some pics tomorrow. I went with the frosted clear color so you can see the white on my 3 XL.
So far, I like it. It's definitely overpriced for what it is, but I didn't see many thin options in a frosted clear color. It won't provide much, if any drop protection. I usually do a skin, so it gives me at least that amount of protection. It's not too slippery, but doesn't add a ton of grip either.
I have enjoyed the Indigo fabric case, but will use this one for the next week and see if it can become my go to case.
*EDIT- One thing I don't like are the button cut outs. I know some like this because they aren't covered, but the thin case and open buttons makes the buttons too flush and hard to find. They aren't hard to press once you find them, but you have to find them. I would prefer covered/raised buttons.

I've had the carbon and the Indigo fabric. I swear the Indigo is more grippy than the carbon. My carbon was too slick and drove me nuts. What color fabric one do you have?
Initial impression is this case is more slippery than my Indigo. I've only been using since getting home from work. I'll know for sure tomorrow after a normal day of being out and about.
