I want to select pictures from my Google photos that are not in my gallery.

The only solution I've found for that (texting older photos) is to share the photo from the photos app. I understand that seems like a workaround rather than a direct solution, but after a little practice, it's pretty simple/quick to execute.

But for their flagships, I still consider the hole punch a notch... it still disrupts the display the same way a notch does. Having that little bit of screen above the hole doesn't allow you to gain more "screen real estate". IMHO

Totally agree, I think the Essential Phone and OnePlus 6T had the best minimal notch design.

I can’t decide if my 2019 Android Flagship is going to be the Note 10 or Pixel 4XL. Both are going to be good in different ways.

My XS Max display made me sick for weeks after I stopped using it. It took a few days for the symptoms to show but when they did it was abrupt. I couldn’t speak normally and lost fine motor control. I became hyper sensitive to flickering led lights I tolerated previously.

OLED is such a mixed bag. So far the only displays I have been completely safe with are the ones Samsung used in the S8 and S9. I had eye strain on some of their previous displays,but no seizures. My Pixel 2 display made by Samsung is poor in low light and gives me eye strain. That’s why I can’t quite make it my main phone.

My preference at this point is for the elegant simplicity of the Pixels. But my health problems I just discussed make my chances of compatibility with the Samsung phones more likely, given that I’m ok on them currently.

But even my S9+ had to be avoided for a full month while I recovered from what my XS Max display did to me. Samsung also makes the displays for the iPhones and my Pixel 2. So I have no idea what’s going on with why I can use a Samsung flagship but not an OLED display on their competition.

The other thing I liked about my Pixel3 was the size and form factor it sat so nicely in the hand being a bit narrower, and the 6t is basically the size of the 3XL and I didn't really want to go much bigger than my iPhone X.

I’m definitely going to give the Pixel 3 Lite a look. Not necessarily for a purchase, since I already own a Pixel 2. But it would be interesting to compare them.

I’m very intrigued by the alleged all plastic construction of the Pixel 3 Lite. It remains to be seen if I will be able to return to my gardening/landscaping work that I did as a hobby and as a volunteer for our schools. But if I could that might be a great phone to carry while doing work like that. My XR is way too heavy. I do miss the lightness of the aluminum iPhones.

Help!

Considering a Pixel 3 XL as a second phone which will be my company phone.

I currently have an iPhone XS Max as my personal phone. I’m debating the Pixel 3 XL or considering also waiting for the S10 plus. I like the Samsung experience and the extras they add on but unsure whether I should just go Google. I prefer quick updates and also a fan of the clean look but I’ve heard stories of poor hardware and gestures that are no as sharp as the alternatives, also, not keeen on just a pin and ginger print reader as the main unlock methods.

Decisions decisions. I’ve also thought about the OP6T but the single speaker and screen quality have put me off, while I like the OS and the timely updates I am not sure what do to.

So here’s my take re: notch as a web developer..

The notch that is seen on the current pixel, and of course the iPhone X / s / Xr and many others simply “hides” the content that is behind the notch and you can scroll pages to get to the content behind them. The question becomes with the “hole punch” how is Samsung going to address that in, say, landscape mode? What if the hole is essentially over the top of something the user needs to interact with and the page is unable to be scrolled, such as a navigation in the head? Some sites are putting the hamburger in the top left corner (which will be affected by landscape mode), and as you all undoubtedly know, most sites have the hamburger in the top right corner in portrait mode.

My point is, no matter how far Samsung stretches the screen, that area with the camera in the corner will most likely have to be no different than the notch on current phones. All they are succeeding in doing is making the notch into a camera cutout. Loss of usable screen real estate will be fundamentally no different.

If you like what Samsung in terms of software and aren't worried about getting the newest OS version right away, then waiting for the S10 line is a no brainer. Samsung are miles ahead of everyone when it comes to hardware and they're making a lot of progress on the software side of things. And with any new Samsung phone release, if you wait a month or two later you'll find great deals.

After speaking to Google I'm going to give a replacer device a try before jumping ship as I do love my Pixel 3. It's the perfect size and the camera is brilliant, I am a photographer and as a back up or portable shooter it's the best there is. Fingers crossed the new device works without any issues.

Went to Best Buy to view this phone today. I was not impressed.

The phone does not exude elegance like the iPhone. The screen is also very dim. The super deep notch is fugly, and apparently burn in is pretty easy to accomplish on this device.

No look pass for me.

Ok, so I must say I was wrong on all accounts. I checked out my roommates Pixel 3 last night, and boy what a sweet piece of kit (this is why you shouldn't trust the demo models in stores).

The screen was actually pretty bright, even at half settings. Android Pie seemed pretty smooth as well, overall it felt like iPhone for Android. I'm sooooooooooooooooooooooo envious of the Always on display on Samsung and Pixel phones; Apple needs to get it's head out of it's rear end and ADD THIS FEATURE ALREADY!!!

I also noticed she had a Google Home Mini, and WOW!!! How responsive is Google Assistant, like you don't even have to talk loud, and hers was across the room. The fingerprint sensor was also very snappy.

Can anyone of you comment on the Pixels Dual Sim functionality!? Like is it as seamless as on the iPhone (I've heard it wasn't), is the Dual Sim setup right out of the box, anything outside of the ordinary that you have to do to get the dual sim setup on Pixel!?

Long story short... I was DEAD WRONG about this phone; it ROCKS!!!!!!!!

Well I went ahead and got the $150 deal off. Though with taxes it was more like $100 off. 🙄

White 128 GB 3XL and mint green silicone case together. 😀

They had half price off on the Pixel buds with purchase of the phone but I didn’t go for that because I have plenty of Bluetooth earbuds and headphones around here.

Sadly I am trading in Snowball to do this for an additional estimated $252 off. But the only reason at this point my main phone isn’t Snowball is the display is too small and low quality (it’s also got a slight pink blotch like my S8+ had) for me to use as a main phone.

Assuming I do not run into issues with seizures or something else bizarre, I am going to follow my husband into making the switch from iPhone to Pixel. iMessage is no longer a barrier with our friends and family since some have switched themselves and some new friends we made this year were already on Android.

If I need Apple maps and my Apple Watch, well sheesh it’s not as if I’m sending my Xr to Mars! It’s still going to be in my purse and all. I can still use the Apple Watch for time, weather, Apple maps prompts, health tracking. Just call and text notifications would be missing. Honestly for some reasons they are often missing or delayed now anyway.

When the Pixel 4 comes out I’ll probably be trading up again.

I am not necessarily out of the running for a Samsung upgrade either. I just won’t be part of the preorder posse, and really wasn’t planning on that anyway. When the warranty is up on my S9+ it may make sense to trade up then...and possibly to the Note 10. Samsung definitely offers a unique user experience. I like Samsung a lot. What I don’t like is waiting for updates to come through AT&T. But everything else is pretty cool.


Snowball’s replacement is likely going to arrive frozen solid, too, so I will be passing along the proud Snowball name: Snowball 3XL 😀

Steer clear of the Pixel earbuds. Their are plenty of cheaper and better options out there. Google wanted to have a earpod alternative and the result was pretty half baked.

Thanks for the warning. My husband was thinking of getting these, but we did see some reviews before that gave us pause. They’re costly even at half price, too!

I’d rather put the money to the Pixel stand. My husband loves his. But I’ll wait and see if the display gives me any problems that means I have to return it before I spend too much more on accessories.

I had thought the last iOS update gave me back the ability to cut and paste when posting on this forum, but when I made my last post using my Xr it didn’t work again. Poo! It used to be iOS gave the hardware the edge over the competition for me anyway. But the last couple of years the two platforms seem to be drawing pretty much even, depending on the individual and their usage, of course. I think my last couple of weeks with my Pixel 2 has shown me Android, even with its quirks, is now a good choice and it’s time to give it a go full time.

So I am very excited to be about to make the switch again, since the last time when I made the HTC 10 my only phone for a few months. Back then it was HTC Sense-specific quirks that had me marching back to iPhone. This time I’m not dealing with all of that.

As a Pixel 3 XL owner, I would tell you to stay with the 6T and wait it out. They're not that different of phones. Is the 3 XL better? Maybe, depending on what you're priorities are but not enough to justify the price difference IMO.

If you're ok with Samsungs software, then I would wait for the S10 release. They're going to destroy anything from last year from a hardware standpoint.

I know Samsung gets a lot of hate here and in general, but they've come a long way since Touchwiz. People just retain that negative image of them for some reason. For example, I still hear people hating on Samsung for taking forever to deliver updates when in reality they've cut the time to update in half since Nougat. Android Authority did an article on it just the other day.

I’m not actually sure I do like the 3XL over the S9+. I really love that S9+. I actually could switch over to it for my second or even main phone. The reason I don’t is that when I need to take indoor photos I get better ones on my Xr or my updated Pixel 2. There can be a tendency to blur subjects in motion in indoor lighting. Just a little bit. It’s nitpicking.

It’s definitely my gaming phone. And my favorite for doing emails, although my husband is going to help me get set up on a new mail platform on my Pixel. Honestly it’s hard to articulate why right now I have a slight preference for the Pixel. My husband is in the same boat when I asked him the same question.

I like the little things. Like “Now Playing” to automatically help with song identification. It doesn’t always work but it works most of the time and is very cool. I like swiping over to get my Google news. I know some people don’t care for the squeeze feature but I like it a lot.

I like not having to deal with Bixby and the Bixby button. I mean, I do like Bixby. I’m not one of the people who hates Bixby and wants Samsung to drop it. I think they should keep developing it and see where it leads. I think if we had more Samsung appliances it would be great to integrate all of them with Bixby. But my appliances are all different brands and won’t be replaced for possibly another decade. And even then, I don’t necessarily want to replace them with Samsung appliances.

Bixby is useful but it feels a little extraneous at the moment. I think they need another couple of generations of work on it to make it something most people would consider indispensable.

I like the Pixel stand. I get to see it in use and it’s pretty cool. I like how it handles waking us up. It’s like a little mini sunrise.

One thing I think lurks in the back of my mind influencing me is the carrier relationship. My husband has told me he can now get all of the AT&T features we use to work on his Pixel 3XL. That wasn’t the case at the time with S9+. We had to buy the AT&T model to get all the features. Pixel is now more like an iPhone that way.

Also, no bloat! I can and do of course disable bloat on my Samsung. It’s just nice not to ever have it on there to begin with. Samsung also has so many marketing partnerships and it can be challenging separating from these partners and avoiding them.

My replacement device has a much softer button than the first device I had did. Almost feels like there's more travel when pressing before it works...
