My main concern before I get my Pixel 6 Pro today, is reviewers saying the size is GIGANTIC HUGE and too large. But I have the Pixel 4 XL and iPhone 12 Pro Max and have gotten comfortable with those for overall size, yeah the 12 Pro Max is a big one, the width actually being too wide, but I do love the screen and and big display, so much to look at and easier to read. I just hope I don't find my 6 Pro too big.

Like if I was going to get another iPhone, it for sure would be the 13 Pro Max, not the regular Pro. Do people complain about the size of the Pro Max iPhone's as much as they do about the Pixel 6 Pro size?
Oh it’s a little bit taller than the 13 Pro Max but feels lighter and easier to grip for me and my husband. But it’s not so light as to feel weird, if you know what I mean. My husband doesn’t like the curved display. I’m fine with it. I’m not sure what you’re going to think of it.

My phone and many countless other packages are apparently just stuck in California FedEx facilities. Mine is stuck in Bloomington California, one of many that are having outages.

My husband is stuck in meetings. I’m just trying to research what’s going on. I don’t know if it’s weather or mechanical or staffing shortages or what. I’m not registered to comment on Reddit but I’ve seen some other people whose phones are stuck where mine is and sitting with no sense of what’s going on. Apparently calling Google doesn’t help. The queue is long (maybe my husband can test that new call queue feature) and nobody’s really got any answers. My husband’s phone came via Illinois. Mine via…sing it with me everyone: “Rancho Cucamonga” 👻👾🕺💃👯‍♀️

Just got an update from FedEx, "Scheduled for delivery tomorrow 11/02."

Ugh. Man this phone has been in several different towns around me since Friday, strange delivery process, on Friday was in a town 10 miles from me, then Saturday in a town like 15 miles away, then Sunday downtown in the city. Now says delivery will be tomorrow.

I have a tracking number. I HAVE A TRACKING NUMBER. I am fortunate in that the phone is shipping from NJ and I am in NYC. So UPS (right now) says it will arrive tomorrow. Fingers and toes crossed.
Carteret NJ ? That is where it came through for me ..usually pretty good with deliveries here

Oh no. That’s not good. I’ve run across a LOT of stories like that one. But I do think you’re probably going to see it this week. It no longer seems stuck in a facility “black hole”, as people are calling them.

As far as mine goes, packages lost in the “Black Hole of Bloomington” generally seem to stay there about 3 weeks from the comments I’ve seen going as far back as last year on Reddit. Some arrive heat damaged but those could be perishables like food items. The commenters didn’t specify. I’m actually more interested in pulling out of the order now than hoping it will reach me a month from now. I will be in no position to deal with my mom and deal with trying to receive a wayward package that will show up whenever FedEx feels like throwing it at the side of my house.

I’m going to stop placing Chewy orders for awhile because they use FedEx. I’ve had cat litter make an interesting journey around California earlier in the summer. It’s going to be a pain shopping in person again. Because the stores are low or out of stock, too, where I live.

Come to think of it, I haven’t seen the FedEx truck in my neighborhood at all for the last few days. Obviously they delivered my husband’s phone. But I don’t see them daily like I see UPS.

I’m trying to temper expectations for Christmas. Even Christmas cards…last year took almost a month to go to my parents in the same state. Many friends got theirs in February. So USPS is not uniformly good, either.

I don’t fault the workers. I’ve been reading some horror stories how the businesses are run and how these people are treated and worked over. It’s a mess.

I’ve been using my GF’s 6 Pro when I can. Just some initials thoughts on the size. The 6 Pro is easier for me to use than the 13 Pro (which I returned due to the weight and picked up a 13 Mini). Even though it’s bigger the weight distribution on the 6 Pro feels better to me.

With most phones I just order the phone and then get cases after receiving the phone. With the 6 pro I’m glad I ordered cases before because it’s tough to track down a case right now. The demand is crazy and I hope it continues to have high demand.

Also, putting my 13 Mini next to the 6 pro I realize just how obnoxious the notch is on the iPhone. When I’m using the 13 Mini I don’t notice the notch but next to a phone without a notch it just looks bad. FaceID is great but Apple needs to figure something else out.

Really looking forward to getting my 6 Pro on Friday! Hopefully no delays.

And, thank you to everyone who is posting their reviews/thoughts here, I enjoy reading every post.

Love this forum, nice to see it’s made over 100 pages, it’s definitively relevant amongst a sea of iPhone posts on Mac Rumors.

Focusing more on the 6 Pro camera today in between work and errands. Arguably, I’m finding the 6 Pro camera (the more I continue to use it) is the best point and shoot camera I’ve experienced out of the box. Nature, animals, humans, food etc. all look completely realistic. New main sensor is benefiting from the extra size allowing for a greater depth of light in, creating richer colours & more accuracy, especially at night. Clarity & crispness are stunning.

Already I’m considering buying some add-on lenses from Moment to create macro, microscope, telescope, fish-eye shots etc. Google must add a Cinematic video mode or a Prosumer ‘Pro’ camera mode next year. Also a longer zoom would be great but super-res zoom is cool. I’ve not fully tested 20x zoom properly yet. I honestly reckon if they teamed up with how Sony work with Zeiss, Google would have an all round camera & video killer. You know the camera is incredible when you take a shot once and the 6 Pro just gets it right. I just don’t get that with every 13 Pro Max photo and I end up mincing about post-production to edit Apple photos. What you see is what you get with Pixel 6 Pro photos - the detail, particularly in HDR, is phenomenal.

Few camera modes I’ve now tested:

Motion Mode
Starting to really enjoy the ‘Motion Mode’ feature where the Pixel takes multiple photos at the same time & combines them using computational photography and machine learning. Allows the 6 Pro camera to identify the subject, work out what’s moving and add aesthetic blur to the photos. Two modes to test out are Action Pan (focus on moving subject) and Long Exposure (adds blur to moving objects in the scene). Takes some practice but get these right by tracking the subject some shots can look unreal! I like to switch between normal and Motion Mode.

Face Unblur
I’m also enjoying ‘Face Unblur’ feature - especially during low light night shots. Even in action photos the processor unblurs face shots to keep the detail. Again, pretty incredible. Portrait Mode seems to be getting better with Tensor. Processing does take longer than expected but post-processing mode, damn some of the Portrait Mode shots look absolutely stunning - with correct skin colour etc. I believe this is down to ‘Real Tone’ and over 15 times more portraits of people of colour being added to the HDR+ database that informs Google’s camera tuning. Result? Better face detection, more nuanced auto-white balance and improved auto exposure. This must be the reason we’re seeing more richness and details to the photos and true to colour images. Hopefully this works with 3rd party (more) Pro camera apps too.

Magic Eraser
Ok so Magic Eraser also takes a lot of practice, I’ve tested on multiple photos and to be more precise using this feature, this is where I have to zoom close in on a taken photo and go for close erasion. Helps to pinpoint what you need to remove more easily. Zoom back out afterwards and it looks much better than just using Magic Eraser without the zoom. Hit & miss for sure in its first iteration but the potential is massive. One final point, I added some of my Apple photos to Google Photos & Magic Eraser works on all old photos whether taken by a Pixel or any other brand! I know this kind of post-photo erasing can be done via 3rd party apps, namely Adobe Photoshop, but to do this all in just the Pixel camera app is fantastic!

Appreciate I’m being really positive on the camera without focus on negatives. Google just took me by surprise this year with how easy it can be to take professional grade photos. With a Pro mode that camera would need a public health warning!

Anyways, tonight is back to Apple for me as today my best mate & his wife flew my US purchased M1 Max MBP over from New York to London, I picked them up from Heathrow airport earlier. Time to road test the beast that is the new MBP. Note to Google - please do give us a competing high-end laptop!

iPhone 13 Pro

Pixel 6.

Liking the wide and ultra wide camera on the Pixel 6 so far. I have not run into a photo situation that has thwarted this sensor yet, though I find it to be a little bit extreme in processing some images as compared to my 3. Compared to the iPhone 13 pro, it flips from being more natural and correct looking, or, to being flat and not a good representation.

Hard to see in this example as I think the forums compress images a touch, but the iPhone is actually more correct in this shot. The day wasn't as monochromatic as the Pixel makes things look, I think it is getting a touch of lens flare that is taking away some of the actual (real to life) Contrast that existed in that scene.

Posted more golden hour comparisons in the other thread.

I sympathise with you guys and the rollercoaster that is trying to manage your expectations in terms of the delivery. I was kind of in the same boat over here in the UK, though my 6 Pro did arrive last Thursday as I was hoping. I didn't get the usual 'Out for delivery - your one hour time slot is...' email or text message, that you normally receive from DPD. I didn't get anything at all actually, the DPD guy just turned up at around 1PM, after I'd sort of accepted it probably wasn't going to arrive! Fortunately I was working from home so I was in and around to accept it. Good luck guys, hang in there!

As for the 6 Pro and some of my thoughts on it. Initially, out of the box, I was unsure on the curved screen, as I'd gotten used to the flat screen of my Pixel 4XL, but after some use I'm starting to settle back into it. I had a OnePlus 7 Pro for a good chunk of time, prior to the 4XL, so I was already kind of used to it, but I do wish the 6 Pro had a flat screen, no doubt. The screen is so beautiful though. 120hz feels silky smooth too, and I feel like I can notice a difference between it and my 4XL, which is obviously 90hz. Though that could just be the upgrade in terms of the screen itself, with the massively improved brightness, crispness and clarity that is affecting my judgement!

It also feels great and really premium, though I wish they'd have gone matte with the finish as it is a fingerprint magnet, especially the Stormy Black that I got. I also agree with other people though, in that it's a bit weird that the phone doesn't 'feel' like a Pixel, in terms of hardware. It is more Samsung like, which is great, but I do also kind of miss the quirkiness that the Pixel hardware has always had in previous iterations, haha! It's so strange, as this is the phone we all wanted, Samsung levels of hardware with Pixels software, and here I am, complaining! Well, not complaining, but moaning a bit, haha!

But yeah, overall I'm very impressed and, whilst I haven't used the camera much, I did manage to snap a beautiful photo of my brother and sister-in-laws dog, so it seems like the camera still absolutely slaps! Plus, the software experience of using a Pixel is still so darn good - it's hard to beat, for me at least.

Both shots are fantastic, really. As the 13 Pro wasn't going to be an option for me (Ultra 21 might have), I'm content/excited that the 6 Pro's results are so fantastic especially since I've been using Samsung phones for a decade. Looks like it was a good time to "jump ship" on Samsung.

Fantastic summary of all of the camera features. It's all the little things that make this the best camera you can use. Like you said you can get an app to do alot of things but the pixel just makes everything so dang convenient. For instance now when you take a video it makes it so easy to grab a still from the video. I'm really loving everything about this phone the more I use it.

Both great shots although I prefer the 13 Pro here. If you weren't looking at them side by side it would be hard to find fault with either shot.

@samcraig @aggie99 Yeah I prefer the 13 Pro in that shot, mostly because it was actually more correct. There was more dynamic range in the actual (true to life scene) that the Pixel missed.

I think the Pixel was compensating for lens flare where the sun was refracting light on the rear glass. I have no complaints on the 6 overall. I was just meaning to point out that it is really close, and I am still looking forward to some winter night shooting, especially as we start to get snow and holiday lights here in MN.

I was having a long reflection time of about a month. It is about deciding which path to follow in future tech purchases.
Was very fortunate to find David Imel's clip on ambient computing.

Tensor is the first step towards to it and convenience and experience road map is a long way but it proved the concept as achievable if we looked back to first pixel and how far they came.

So after coming from every year flagship of iPhone (except 13 pro), I have lowest of low expectation on Google 6/6Pro regards to any hardware comparison. My hope only here is for Google to provide experience of convenience with basic ambient computing.

For last 3 days use of P6 pro, there are some pointers which met my expectation:
- Camera in-app edit is so convenient that I only had to use it standalone. I used to have Snapseed and VSCO on iPhone.
- Call screening was very handy for last 2 days.
- I am kind of audio maniac and showing the music played near me on AOD screen is epic.
- No more typing for messaging with Google assistance

Overall, I felt I have to input less and still gain what I need for daily drive. This is the first step with Tensor and I hope Google will go deeper with sharing bespoke experience for individual.

"Instead of form following function, what if form followed feeling!"

It is happening and we are in it.

The assistant side of this phone is something I don't use as often as I likely should. I am still quite manual in how I interact with my devices, and rarely use voice assistance for anything unless I am driving.

I need to tweak a few things as it is making me unlock the device for a few things I feel it should just do. That said, I don't hold it against Google or the phone, I just know how to tweak iOS and Siri better, having used it as my main daily driver longer and more recently.

The Pixel 3 that I own and still love started having issues lasting a full day, with that, and the lack of iMessage for sending images to clients, I stopped using it as primary, and it was more of a backup device that was in the bag.

Now I am finding myself 60/40 use of iOS and Android (phone only), in favor of Android. I still am a heavy user of iPads though.
