I recently purchased an M2 Mac Mini and am using it with an Acer RT240Y monitor (1080p, 24 inch) via HDMI. I have previously used this monitor on Windows based computers for the past 4 years with no issues.

I've noticed that on macOS, text seems to be particularly pixelated especially on web browsers and it is particularly bad on Firefox. I have tried using the Terminal to change the font smoothing but this makes no difference. I have also looked at Displays in System Settings but I have no scaling options in System Settings (presumably because this is a low resolution monitor).

Is there any solution to this problem, except buying a new monitor?
Thanks

Sadly no, 1440P is a lot better but still not great like Windows. You gotta step up to 4K before it starts to become a lot better unfortunately.

Not really besides use Windows or Linux instead. Apple removed support for sub-pixel font rendering in macOS 10.14. Sub-pixel font rendering helps make text look better on low DPI displays and since they removed it that's why it looks bad.

Thank you for your replies everyone. I will probably eventually get a 4K monitor, but for now I've switched my.browser to Microsoft Edge as I've noticed the fonts are a bit better in Chromium based browsers.
