Would be interesting to see this as a generic app for iOS as well. As of now the app portfolio is a little confusing

Pixelmator is great, especially if you have lots of photos to edit. They recently added AppleScript support so now you can create scripts that automatically adjust multiple images. It's like the Photoshop batch command on steroids. Plus the Pixelmator ML corrections are better than just a simple Photoshop levels or auto color correct. You can see the corrections that Pixelmator has made and fine tune them to your own taste.

nice free upgrade for users of previous version of Pro.
one time cost from day one with this app so long ago always giving users a decent deal unusual nowadays too.

nice eye candy but even better app :

I wish I could like Pixelmator. I worked in Photoshop for 20 years, and most other image editors make me feel cack-handed as their tools operate differently. Pixelmator, Acorn and Affinity all confuse me.
I recently purchased Affinity for personal design/photo work (not relying on using a work machine) and am still fairly confused using the tools...simple things like Transform and simple adjustments. I probably just need to invest more time using and fooling around.

I have always been frustrated by Pixelmator’s tiny text and buttons in the toolbars, palettes and other user interface elements. The tiny UI elements make Pixelmator difficult to use on high resolution monitors. I notice that VLC Player also likes to use tiny buttons and text in the playlist window. Is this a common thing among European developers?

Adobe switching to subscription apps was all the incentive I needed to find out I could still learn new tricks.
I'm not your typical user, but I've been using Photoshop Elements to stitch together and trim scans of old maps. Need transparency and export to TIFF. Probably because the publicity on v2, I downloaded a demo copy of Pixelmator Pro a week or so ago and it's much better at that than PS and yet the good stuff that PS had for that is there. I've used PS on and off for years doing that and Pixelmator is much smoother and consistent. Will buy a copy unless I find something I really need that's not there. Only minor difference is that PS can open and save TIFF, and Pixelmator has to export but for this workflow it's a wash.

>This allows for features like Super Resolution, which intelligently increases the resolution of images while preserving details, to work up to 15x faster.

How on earth does this work?
How can you increase the size of an image, but 'preserve' details? Won't everything just be scaled up? You can't introduce resolution where there's no more data.
I'm not sure what "Super Resolution" is but my guess is that it's an AI upscaler. Check out Gigapixel which does this really well:

I use their Video Enhance AI product to upscale Star Trek Voyager from 480p to 1080p. It's not 100% perfect, but it's waaaaaay better than watching it in 480p. Seven of Nine HD... just sayin...

Had to throw you a like for the Super Troopers clip alone! 🤣

I saw the MKBHD review of the M1 MacBook Pro and he mentioned Pixelmator as an app that didn’t work right... that got fixed FAST!

I purchased Pixelmator Pro via Mac App Store. The current version is 1.8. Will the upgrade be automatically available via App Store?

Isn’t the price enough motivation? I use Pixelmator Pro for more and more edits and keep using Photoshop only because some clients and workflows only accept PSD files. Same goes for Affinity Photo. you gain performance, money (not spending in subscription), battery life, easy of use (after some mental change) and modern optimized interfaces.

It was for me this morning. Open the App Store app and if it is not there, hit command-r to refresh. That made it pop right up for me.

I use Affinity Photo and don't need this but, how does this company make money? I bought Pixelmator (not the pro) back in 2011 and they updated it in 2020 for free. The iPad app I bought for 5$ before ages is still supported!

Your brain can do the same thing. Look at a photo, now imagine it close up. It won’t get pixelated in your head because your brain can extrapolate based on available data what it’s likely to look like. Same thing here, but with artificial intelligence instead

I’m not usually one to complain publicly, but I just downloaded this and got the spinning beach ball on my first photo edit, using one of the ML functions. In fact sometimes the ball didn’t even spin.

Disclosure; I don’t know anything about editing photos beyond playing with basic apps over the years. This app just looked like it might be fun to try and learn. It admittedly is more advanced than anything I’ve used before for pics. I probably should have stayed in my lane.. pixelmator on my iPad has always been flawless though.

FYI- Base M1 MBP. First hiccup in my new computer. Hope it’s an easy fix.

Absolutely! I quit Adobe and muddle through on Acorn right now, but it’s slowed me down so much. Nothing is intuitive.

The ad does look like an Apple ad but with everything time wise going a lot slower.

Looks great though, kudos for jumping so fast on the M1 bandwagon.
